iPod shortage and loads of iPods burn in plane fire
“‘We’ve been running around for the past couple of days trying to find it,’ said 16-year-old Joey Balinski, looking downcast after coming up iPod-less at another store. ‘I would have asked for it for Christmas a couple of years ago, but I figured by now it would be easier to find. [...]
‘It still beat our overestimating expectations,’ said Kawika Holbrook, assistant manager at the Apple Store at Westfield Shoppingtown Valley Fair, noting his store had sold thousands since Thanksgiving. Plus, fate may have conspired against a few iPod lovers. A large FedEx MD-10 airplane that caught fire Thursday in Memphis had a load of iPods on it, Holbrook said. ‘The picture was being passed around the Net, and we were like, ‘No!’ ‘Apple has not said whether any iPods were damaged, or whether that affected late-season availability.”

I saw that on TV, the pilots jumped out of the cockpit windows…all those poor ipods went up in smoke, glad the pilots are ok.

now they are saying the pilot was color blind and thats why it crashed, he couldnt read the warning lights properly

There’s an iPod shortage? They had stacks of the things when I stopped by my local Apple store this afternoon (Columbus, Ohio). I guess it all depends on where you live.

About the only way no Ipods were damaged in this flight is if they were in the crew’s pockets as they evacuated the plane!!!

I live here in town where the plane went down. I know people that work at Fed-Ex and living in the city with the hub you always do. The information I have says that if anything was damaged on the plane, it is very little. All the packages are in containers that can burn but offer some protection from the outside. The fire was from the right engine and wing and stayed mostly to the outside of the plane. Fire crews were ready to put the fire out when the plane touched down and had it out very quickly. If there is any slowdown in the delivery of the iPods from this then it will be because of the NTSB investigation. There is a chance of damage internaly but the plane stayed intact increasing the chances of recovery of cargo. Lets just wait for the offical word to see what happens. Good Day.
