Update: Apple has since removed the ‘Windows’ button from the download page. We hope Apple posts the link soon and quick’s teasing our Windows iPod users.
It would seem that Apple is getting ready to post the long awaited iPod Software 1.3 for Windows. A ‘Windows’ button has appeared on the official iPod Software 1.3 download page, but is not yet active.

Calm down and quit your ########. There’s already a program that will put the 1.3 firmware on a Windows based iPod if you really care. You can get it at http://www.the-midfield.com/ipod.aspx Just click “WinniePod Updater v1.30.” It really does just add AAC/MP4 support, so it won’t help most of you. If you want to actually put AAC/MP4’s on your Windows based iPod currently, you can convert them and add them using Spoon’s dbpoweramp (http://www.dbpoweramp.com). Then again, there isn’t a well established way of adding song titles and file information to the AAC/MP4’s, so even if you can get them on there your iPod probably won’t know what to call the songs. Plus, dbpoweramp is using an old aac encoder (the developer now works for ahead and designs the Nero AAC/MP4 encoder). I’m sure Apple will officially release 1.3 when they release iTunes4 for Windows.

What I’d really like and am hoping for in 1.3 for Windows is PC IPOD support for Audible content. The other features of 2.0 would be nice, but I’ve been waiting for Audible compatibility forever!

I’m with TonyOH. I’d love on-the-fly playlists, but what really galls me is the fact that Apple still hasn’t gotten around to proper Audible support. The Audible site still says it’s coming in “early May” and each time I’ve asked them for more info they’ve said that date was from Apple, and they’re still waiting.

Yeah early may my ###. Everything from Apple is “early may.” It’s late June or near August if you wish. May is long freaking gone.
