iLounge has posted a set of three videos comparing the speed of the third-generation iPod touch to that of the second-generation iPod touch and iPhone 3GS. As expected, the new iPod touch appears to be slightly faster than the iPhone 3GS, and noticeably faster than the second-generation iPod touch. All three videos are embedded below, and are also available for viewing on Vimeo (1, 2, 3).

Because the quality of the YouTube videos was unacceptably inferior to Vimeo’s. We’d rather have users see the video as it’s intended to be seen.

Is it just me or the screen on 3G looks to be having better contrast ratio compared to 2g ? Also speed difference is noticable between 3g and 3g.

Is the speaker in the 3G any better than the 2G?

The speed difference is pretty dramatic. The load times are much faster! It has much better detail and contrast, maybe even slightly richer colors, in the more complex scenes, too.
Now all Apple needs to do is activate the wireless ‘n’ chip and I’ll be sold.

Has there been any confirmation yet as to whether there are any differences between the 2G and 3G 8GB models? Obviously it doesn’t have the GPU of the larger ones, but does it have a better processor or more RAM?

Does the iPhone 3GS share the same OpenGL ES Version 2.0 support as the new iPOd Touch 3G? I’m assuming no, but have not seen any confirmation.
