iPod touch shipping, unboxing photos on flickr [updated]

image

The iPod touch is now available at some Apple Stores, and iLounge’s unboxing and iPod/iPhone comparison photos of the device have appeared on photo-sharing site flickr. The iPod touch comes in a black box, similar to the iPhone’s, and features a photo of the device’s “Now Playing” screen, with album art from artist Corinne Bailey Rae, on the top. Inside the box, and shown in our photos, is a simple clear plastic stand that can be attached to iPod touch’s side to prop it up for widescreen video viewing. While the iPhone’s first screen shows users a picture of the Earth, and states “Activate Phone” before the first sync, the iPod touch shows a picture of an iPod cord, with an arrow above it pointing to iTunes’ icon.

In addition to the photos, iLounge has posted a brief video of the iPod touch in action on YouTube. It is unclear how many Apple Stores have received shipments of the device.

Updated: Readers report that iPod touch units are now available in limited supplies in stores throughout the East and West Coasts, as well as the Midwest. One suburban Chicago store already has units on display for hands-on testing.

Has anybody received an email saying that their touch shipped yet.  My touch is “Prepared for Shipment” at this point.  Hopefully they go out soon.

I got mine yesterday afternoon at the Pioneer Place store in Portland, Oregon. They only got 16GB in their shipment. I also have an online order that moved to ‘Prepared for Shipment’ status yesterday, so I can’t cancel it. I might get stuck w/ two units :)

I pre-ordered mine at 12:24 the day of the event and so far it has not been updated to Prepared for Shipment.  hmmmmm….maybe later today.

I’m sooo jealous.  We don’t have an Apple store in my town, or any electronics stores for that matter.  So I guess I’ll have to wait.  :(

the apple store in easton town center (columbus, oh area) did have them as of 11am this morning…actually kept a 16gb on hold for me until I was able to get there.  they received 16Gb models yesterday, and 8gb today, but they were going fast.  if you really need one today, better call first.  the “demo guy” was getting them ready for display, so I had to wait in line to be able to handle one.

My online order- with engraving- finally says “prepared for shipment”, and I ordered at 2:49 PDT.  Good luck to everyone and I hope mine comes soon!

Don’t get too excited about it saying “prepared for shipment,” mine has said that for two days.  I’m assuming that Apple will continue shipping to retail stores for a few days before shipping out apple.com orders.

Got one for my wife today.  Used my $100 credit too!  The Apple rep was very helpful.  She pointed me to the credit registration page on one of the in-store iMacs. I filled it out online and printed the barcoded coupon to one of the store printers.  They gave me the hard copy to present at check out!  All in all a very smooth transaction.

My status was updated to “prepared for shipping” this afternoon.  The new nano I ordered had this status for a day before it shipped.  I’m hoping for a next week delivery.

It is pretty sad that the online customers have to wait longer…
But I am happy for the change in status.

They have them in Houston, Texas. Forgot the store but in a mall there. My buddy just went to get me one and to send it to Helsinki Finland. I will be the first guy in Finland to have one. Too cool.

Yes, I know, but it’s the little things that makes us happy. :)

Happy hunting guys.

I’ve started my stopwatch for all you early-adopters.  How long until Steve Jobs comes by and kicks you in the nuts?

Next week’s announcements:
iPDA Announced!  Quoting Steve Jobs, “It does everything iTouch does plus iChat, e-mail, all regular PDA functions and supports 3rd party apps!  And it will only cost 50 bucks less than what iTouch buyers paid last week.”

Called the Michigan Ave location Chicago before lunch. Next thing I knew, my boss and I were spending our lunch hour becoming the new owners of 16gb iTouch’s. From the person I talked to on the phone, they said they had plenty in stock. The sad thing is that right now, I have a non hi-speed USB port on my computer, so my upload of songs is like molasses.

Personally, 16gb is fine with me. I’ve had my 15gb ipod 3rd gen since January 2004. I don’t think I’ll fill this thing up right away, and I figure it’s gonna be some time before I add any TV content.

The Deer Park, IL store had them this afternoon on display and being sold (no idea on how many they have in stock). Personally, I’m not a big fan of the sharp-edge front bezel with the rounded metal back. They feel front-heavy. They are cool devices though.
