iPodworld magazine coming soon
MacMinute is reporting that “IDG, the company behind Macworld and more than 300 other publications, will soon launch iPodworld—a magazine dedicated to Apple’s iPod, iTunes and iTunes Music Store. iPodworld will feature iPod and music news, previews of upcoming products, software and hardware reviews, digital lifestyle how-to articles, and reviews of music available from the iTunes Music Store. It is not yet clear whether the magazine, which will be available on newsstands in August, will be a single issue, quarterly or monthly. IDG and Mac Publishing also plan to launch and heavily promote an iPod news Web site to support the new magazine.”

Is there really a market for this?
Will they cover both the Mac and PC side of things, or concentrate only on Mac?

I really don’t see the need for this. But then again, maybe some people will buy it (why would they?).
I’m sure they’ll cover the PC side of the iPod. more than 50% of iPod users are Windows users (or at least PC users).

I think a magazine would be cool. Just cause others are always on my computer, and I can’t always get to ipodlounge. The magazine would be a great help. I was always wondering when they would come out with one.

I like the idead because i’m interested in iPod related articles and I don’t wanna spend $7+ on a magazine that just devotes one section

I think this will be like all the other magazines that have no substance and are filled with ads and unrelated comments. A lot of the faq section could be found here, next gen iPod news would be known long before. With Playstation or Xbox magazines, they have games and hardware accessories to discuss. iTunes side of this magazine would cover music and my subscription to music and entertainment magazine is doing a find job on that side. If they sold it at $1 an issue, maybe I would subscribe. But If they charge some ridiculous price for 4 issues a year, they will see almost no customers.

It would be a niche magazine I guess. But look at how many other niche and trade mags are out there and doing fine, and I doubt they have a potential 3 million and growing customer base potential.

So..news about the iPod and reviews about its related accessories with occasional interjection about the iTunes Music Store? Hm..sounds like iPodLounge. I’ll stick with free, thankyouverymuch.

I guess the iPod has reached another milestone as market leader. Its own magazine.
I’m sure Sony is eagerly anticipating an 8TRAC magazine when they bury the iPod

And your basis for this comment would be…??? Just goes to show you that 90% of the Internet is criticism by people who know 10% or less about what they criticize.

and you critizing him with a made up statistic only adds to that 90%.

Cool - just think, if they sell 1 magazine to each person thinking of buying an ipod, then they will make money.

they should make a magazine about people freaking out about an ipod magazine, and throw in as many as 65.7% worth of made up stats.
I’m there!

Anyone seen Dodgeball?
What was that magazine Gordon was always reading? OSM (Obscure Sports Monthly) I think. If there’s a market for that magazine, there’s a market for iPodWorld!

The magazine suffers from being one big Apple advert. It fails to review things critically; everything Apple is seen as wonderful, which simply isn’t true. I for one had an awful experience of iTunes and removed it from my PC, returning to the old faithful MusicMatch, so I don’t particularly want to read pages about how great iTunes is. It’s drawbacks are not addressed. And while many accessories are listed, they are not reviewed in a meaningful way. Oh, and the mag is overpriced too.
