Is your iPhone 3G having headphone port problems?
During our continued testing of two iPhone 3Gs, we discovered last night that one of our units has a troubled headphone port; unlike our original iPhone and another iPhone 3G, unplugging the included Stereo Headset from the port mid-telephone call results 50% or more of the time in a disconnected call. Since many of you have units already, we’d like to ask in advance of our review: is this happening to your iPhone 3G? Please post in the comments below; we’d like to know how isolated this is. Thanks!

After a month of so, my earphones button stopped working.
I can’t stop, pause or skip music, or answer or disconnect a phone call with my earphones button. Sometimes it will respond but very late or not appropiate…

I just received a new, black iPhone 3G about three months. Everything functioned fine until I began using the iPod player about 6 weeks later. Now, my phones intermittently thinks it’s got headphones plugged into it when it doesn’t. It can be fine just sitting there in standby mode. Then, I pick it up and surf the Net or something, and the volume thinks it’s got headphones plugged into it. Very frustrating when attempting to make and receive calls.
I’ve the most recent software and firmware updates. I’ve tried putting the headphone jack in and out. I’ve tried changing settings. All to know avail. I’m just about ready to take it to AT&T and complain.

Ive had my phone for a year and had to put up with the “headphone” mode. I have to make calls using my bluetooth. Ive tried resetting, the alcohol thing, everything. I took it to the apple store and since i used the alcohol they said it got wet so they cant fix it. Any suggestions. Frustrated!!!!

Headphones connection is a hit or miss, sometimes you can hear a song/call and use the button, some other times only button works and so on, frustrating. Things weren’t as badly made in the past (think 90’s Sony or Panasonic tape thin walkmans). This is BS!

Correction and possible fix: Use a toothpick and gently try to excavate the dust and debris that’s settled on the bottom of iPhone connector, inside the phone. I used a 1/8 thin, 1” long sheet of duct tape, reverse taped on the other side of the toothpick and cleaned its surroundings and bottom. Clean it until you see a white or metal looking piece of material. I just done this and now it connects successfully everytime
btw, I’ve used alcohol to clean it too, that helps too but since it was stuck with debris, the headphones were not making a good contact anyway

My 3g iphone will switch to headphones mode during phone calls. The only way I can continue the call is to switch to speaker. The Genius told me that it was possible dirt/lint in the port which also causes my vmoda ear phone to loose one of the speakers… grrr. Of course the warranty has recently expired so hey will be happy to fix it for $$$$.

I bought an iphone 3gs, i cannot hear anything when I make calls or when i get calls. I have to use the loudspeaker to listen to the voice from the other end. Moreover, I cannot listen to songs from the iphone directly without connecting to the headphone. This is making me crazy and want to throw out the cell from the window. I cleaned the headset port and is still not working. Has anyone has a similar problem…UFFFFFF

my iphone 3g 16 gb black recently had a problem with it’s headphone port. None of my earphones work with the phone unless i push down really hard on top of the output. But when i try my earphones on other things (i.e my laptop, computer, etc.) it works just fine. Help please?
