iTunes Europe close to deal with indie labels
“Apple Computer Inc. is on the verge of agreeing a deal with independent record labels that will allow its iTunes music service to sell their tracks, The Times newspaper reported on Monday.
Citing sources close to the talks, the newspaper said a pact could be announced on Tuesday, ending a feud that has kept independent labels off iTunes since its launch in the UK, France and Germany last month.”

off topic a bit but: i’ve run into the “problem” of itunes europe offering songs not available in the u.s.
was wondering about a loophole. does anyone know if you can buy a gift certificate and then, under a different account, cash it in on one of the european stores? do you need a credit card to use a gc? any other ideas?
music should be universal.

Bad news if, like me, you want the freedom to download tracks without having to install the “big brother” of music software.
