iTunes Europe sells 800K songs in first week, 450K in UK

“Apple’s online music service iTunes has reported sales of 800,000 songs since it opened its European store last week.
An Apple spokesman said 450,000 of the tunes sold since the store opened had been bought by consumers in the UK.
The service offers music fans in the UK, France and Germany over 700,000 songs for 79p or 0.99 euros each.
Apple’s chief executive Steve Jobs claimed iTunes was already “Europe’s top online music store” and had outsold rival OD2 by 16 times in the past week.”

Good for them… I really hope they’re making money off of this because it seems like they’re going to a WHOLE lot of trouble just to get the music store out there. Personally as an American I’m happy… I’ve had iTunes since day one on my mom’s mac and on my PC. Anyway… YAY Apple! May the successes keep rolling in! Yay!

I-Tunes UK should come with few admitance to a rehab facility!!
The next month will be the ‘oo-its new’ surge - i wonder if interest will dwindle in 2-3 months time. i hope not ‘cause i love it.

Interest in the US didn’t dwindle—after the initial rush (which died back slightly in following weeks) came a slower growth to more than double the initial rush. And growing still.
And in Europe, some BIG strikes against Apple will likely be removed in future: iTunes will come to more countries, and the indie labels will join up.

Fact man - how does that work out to be 41 million songs a year?
Blue frogs - It may loose the first weeks wave but, it will definitely pick up as more people learn about the service. Apple wouldn’t be over there if the numbers were to go down.

i dont care about iTunes Europe - Australia needs it! or wood we be regarded as Asia Pacific if britain n germany are as europe ... hmmmm

I’d like to see real figures from allofmp3.com or OD2 to see what their sales curve looks like. It would be interesting to see if iTMS UK largely grows the market or cannibalizes their existing sales base. I suspect the former.
