BBC Newsnight’s “Paul Mason investigated how new technology is changing the music business. Apple launched its iTunes business in Europe which will allow people to download music for a small fee. Other companies are fighting for the legal downloading market. But will our increasing ability to download music from the internet be good or bad for the business, and who’ll be the likely winners and losers?” Newsnight can be seen on BBC Two at 2130 GMT 2230 UK, or in Real video, either live or on demand, by clicking on the latest programme button. The iTunes/music download report can be viewed between 24:45 – 31:05.

What a stupid question to ask! But even more stupid was the comment made by the journalist when an Apple rep said “he won’t answer that question” the journalist said: “the market will”.
Why so much cynicism? I just don’t get it. Is it supposed to be bad if Apple is successful in Europe? What was his point? That Apple is only successful with the iPod? I don’t understand his point.
But to be frank, Newsnight journalists are often very aggressive. Maybe they believe it make them look better journalists than they really are.

Basically it is official Newsnight policy to be cynical and down about everything. And as we all know the BBC hates anything American. Now if Clive Sinclair or Richard Branson were rolling out a (no doubt useless) music store the BBC would love it.

No the bbc don’t hate america we just have a media that actually challenges and asks questions sometime. I suppose adverts every 20 secs and not preaching fear of the poor mugging you if you leave your house after 7pm may make the news boring but hey if you want action rent an arnie movie. Newsnight would give Clive Sinclair and Branson they give everyone a hard time thats just them. They are just as hard on Microsoft and Virgin.
