iTunes Sharing Status Service Debuts
iTunes Sharing Status is a clever new service for iTunes users indicating whether or not you are sharing your iTunes music on the Internet. There is no software to download and it’s free. All you have to do is fill out an online form with your IP address (auto-detects) and provide URLs to two images to indicate sharing is online or offline. The default images for online and offline:

Does sharing allow one to copy said music file to ones hard drive? if so, the statement “Don’t steal music, share it”, seems a mute point!

lol I hadn’t thought about that but your right if the new music store is all about buying music and not sharing then why does it have a share option? that would be pointless when they don’t let you share it

I think it might be for sharing across the LAN but I could be mistaken.

actually, when you share your iTunes across the LAN or internet, you only STREAM the song, not actually move the file across the network.

So how much bandwith does sharing use? How many people could share my library before everything would grind to halt.

Aditional to bandwith, many ISP’s have limits on traffic that can sent from one’s IP address. If I started to share my music with many people, I think my ISP would pull the plug on my connection.

It’s not a script for download. It’s a service provided by a website.
