Apple UK has posted a page to sign up for the iPod mini email list. “Coming in April – Enter your details below and we’ll email you when iPod mini is available.”
In a report by Macworld UK, it states, “Many Mac users have observed that the preliminary £199 price tag Apple has announced in the UK seems steep in comparison to the $249 US music fans are being charged.
Apple has said the £199 price is subject to change (depending on the vagaries of the exchange rate), but hasn’t announced any final shipping price at this time. Presumably, iPod mini fans who sign-up to receive an email when the product does ship will get to know what the final UK shipping price is first.”

Wth todays current exchange rate $1.9 per pound, the price would come to £131.65. Apple would be able to mark it up to £150 (£18.35 mark up on usa price) and have enormous sucess as that price would be ultra competitive with even some of the high selling budget players and would put the iPod mini above the competition instantly.

No body will buy it for 200. 50 quid or so more gets you the entry level full sized iPod, which holes a crapload more music, and another 50 on top of that gets you the 20 gig version.

Yesterday, after my 1st gen iPod was stolen by some scumbag who got into my office, I decided I simply had to have a new one. I’m in the UK but have a cousin in the States. By getting him to buy me a 20GB iPod over there (and bringing it when he visits) I saved £100!! Or 33%. Which shows how stupid the UK pricing is.
