Normally we couldn’t care less about iPod clones, but Korean company Nextway has announced the D Cube NHD-150D, a 1.5GB hard drive based audio player looking very similar to the iPod. It’s white, and has an LCD display above a scroll wheel and buttons similar to older iPods. Its features include; OGG Vorbis support, 8 line LCD, FM transmitter, FM radio and FM record, direct encoding, Mac OS support and the list goes on. We could not find a price posted on the website. Apple has been known to sue for such ‘similarities’ in product design, most notably the original iMac.

well im glad to see there are finally companies coming out with products that make sense - for any of u detracters out there - screw u - there is a reason why bmw, audi, mercedes all buy each others cars and take it apart - this is called reverse engineering- and make improvements on their existing technology - this is not illegal !!!! this is common practice !!!! - we should welcome this as hopefully more companies use ipods’ design and interface to drive prices down!!! then we wont be like - ‘i own an ipod’ it will be ‘i own an mp3 player’ i.e. who gives a crap what dvd player u own it serves its same purpose! just as a music player will in the near future - thank u - love u all -and my ipod ... for now…..

If they sell it for $99, then that’s the only way I would ever buy one.

i think it sucks..BE ORIGINAL…the only reason it will sell ( if it does ) is for the low end people who really wouldnt want to spend so much…which is fime…but back to the point…Make your own designs d-cube people…and maybe you wont be laughed at by so many people
i give them no respect…

i agree with nypod. they lack originality. it can only be a good product if it not only looks different from something that’s popular, but also sells well.

Ok, reverse engineering? Well, lets talk about reverse copying, and this aint gunna happen to our USA based Macintosh dream company reaping millions from OUR ipod design. Its a flat out copy and violation of every patent that apple has. Do you recall how Samsung recently was threatened by Apple to stop manufacturing a “too close” to looking ipod gadget copycat! Well, i realize Asia is the land of the copycats, just because you are far away from our country doesnt mean we wont sue the F@$$ out of you soon…..

hey anthony, watch the nationalist rhetoric and point your comments to the company, not the continent.

Looks like an ipod knockoff to me… but there are some nice features that I wish Apple would incorporate into their ipod… namely OGG support, FM radio, etc…

Reverse engineering is illegal. It’s like taking somebody else’s thesis and rewording it in your own handwriting or in your favorite font. And I like some of this thing’s features, but you’d never catch me buying one…

I’m not surprised…why? because its KOREAN….koreans are never original and you’d know what i mean if you went there. Its always the japanese or the americans/europeans. I would expect something like this would happen…as you can see there is a posting on a similar looking black flash player on the forums…wutyakno…by a korean company. National rhetoric…i dunt think so. I’m korean and you ask any korean-american at least one is bound to say the same thing.

First, does Apple own the rights to the scroll wheel? My complaints with tihs priduct is that, not that it’s attempting to take on the ipod but, could they not have made it so obvious…and, could they not have made it a different color? I do like some of it’s features. 1.5gb is perfect for the person who wants something for walks or drives to work but will not use it 5 hours a day, every day like many ipoders.
Lots of things are ripped off versions of other things, not sure how apple could sue unless Apple has a patent on the scroll wheel design, etc.
As for reverse engineering,we’ve been doing it from the aliens for decades…so what?

i dont get whats the big deal. u know technology like air bags, dvd nav, electronic brakes, stability control , heated seats- all trickled down from high-end car manufacturers - and in this case apple is like the mercedes (see ive said a nice thing) of mp3 players - its a niche market and other companies can use ideas like apples’ and offer it to the more mainstream buying public.
i doubt u can sue for a scroll wheel - why my md player has one - as for the similarity - its freakin form fitted around a harddrive - u really cant avoid making it not look like a rectangle now can u?
still loving my 30 gig ipod here..i hate steve jobs…

Niche market?!? 40% of **ALL** MP3 players, regardless of price is a niche? 3 of the Top 5 MP3 Players is a niche?!
