A reader has informed us of an Apple iPod presentation on the Apple Sales Web website (members only). Of interest, is a slide depicting a photo of an iPod with an illustrated LCD remote, radio tuner and microphone. Two of the four accessories listed in the slide are shipping - the microphone and photo card reader by Belkin. And Griffin Technology has already announced an FM tuner for iPod. This information leads us to believe that one day there may be an LCD remote released as well. One can only hope. iLounge has verified the Apple iPod presentation for authenticity and concludes it is not a fake.

Remember that just because these accessories could potentially be made to work, does not mean they make sense from an economical poit of view. Bluetooth-connected devices, LCD remotes, etc, are very costly to produce and would probably only sell in low numbers for a high price.

um inuyasha thats the whole point of a remote control. a small replica of the part itself. such as a car stereo. it should have the same controls but with the ease of being a couple feet away. think before you drink n|gga.

If they make a LCD remote I’d buy a second iPod and that remote instantly.

I believe Creative made an LCD remote for the Jukebox and it was backordered for weeks despite its high price.

the ipod already has the size of a remote....a lcd remote ...stupid!
why not having a airport-wifi adapter to the ipod and an wifi receiver on the stereo, and here is your remote.

Despite what many other people are saying, I think that the LCD remote would be a great idea. Though it may be half the size of the iPod itself, it allows you to keep the iPod in some pocket with headphones on, and you could have this remote on your hand, with no wires attached. This is the ultimate in convinence, where you can adjust everything on the iPod without even moving a single wire.
However, IF this was a wired remote, then it would indeed lose all its purpose.

an FM tuner is a requirement when I am holiday in another countrt..hate to have to lug along a separate radio.
I luv the convenience of the bare bones remote now..LCD would put it over the topt

like stated in the post the fm transmitter had been released toay by griffen. it looks NOTHING like the one in that picture. also, and I quote
“The iFM only works with the original iPods with the FireWire port on top. No iFM radio for the new dockable iPods has been announced at this time.”

How does a wired remote lose all its purpose? Why does something have to be drastically different or wireless to have a purpose?
The request for a LCD remote grew out of people’s displeasure with the existing implementation of the remote that ships with the current and past iPod models. For many it does not provide a suitable amount of functionality because it does not have a LCD that displays current song info, rating, volume level, time remaining on song, etc....
Many have pointed to the Sony MD WIRED LCD remote as the kind of upgrade to the current remote they would like to see.
Not to say a Bluetooth, IR or any kind of wireless remote would not be useful. For many I am sure it would be. But there currently is a wireless remote available for the iPod put out by a third party vendor. Yet the wired LCD “MD-like” remote that many iPod users have asked for since the days of the initial 1st/2nd Gen release has yet to be developed.
It may not have a use for you but doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a use for others.

Shouldn’t the FM Tuner have a ‘remote’ connection? All i see in the picture is a standard headphone plug *sigh*

Who said “save the bluetooth”? Are you kidding? Lets see, a remote that doesn’t rely on wires, or even having the ipod visible to the user… hmm… sound like a GREAT idea to me. I could use it to control the ipod when its docked to my stereo or even when it sitting at the bottom of my book bag. Come on, lets continue to open the doors of technology

No, no, no. We want an UNCOMPRESSED stereo recording option. Much like Creative’s Jukebox, which records uncompressed .WAV files… I still think it a mere baby step (and weak-arse at that) to only now offer super compressed mono recording. I mean c’mon people, does ANYONE have a need/desire for a 40G dictaphone?? Puh-lease…

to people talking about a blutetooth remote..you gota think serious, you can never fit a bluetooth device in something small enough to be classed as a remote, bear in mind it’ll need to be self powered, so that adds more bulk to it, it just wont happen, and i dont think it really needs to either
