Mac: Toggle iPod Battery Status 1.0 released

This is a tool to switch between the two options (including one hidden option) for iPod Battery Status display. Your two options are the default “Icon” view, showing a picture of the battery with the dark part filled to indicate how much current you have left. The other view is a “Numeric” view. It shows a number between 0 and ~500 to indicate your voltage. This software automatically detects which setting you are currently using and switches to the alternate method.
License: Shareware $1.00
System Requirements: This script will only work in Mac OS X and it is Panther compatible

$1 is not much to ask, but for something useless it is $1 too much.
Consider the fact that just a few days ago, there was an article about a hack that does the same thing. If you really want the numerical indicator, get that hack. Still, unless you’re still using the old 4 chunk battery meter, both aren’t of much use.
I’m tired of how every time there’s something great and free out there, someone has to make a non-free version of it as well. Take for example the tons of iPod to iTunes transfer utilities out there that are free, and the tons of utilities that do the same thing that are not free. Then there’s the whole XOplay selling text messages for atrocious prices while you could make your own, or download some that are of much better quality for free.
I’m not saying that these products are scams, because they’re perfectly legitimate, however, I find it insulting that just becuase we, the iPod users have an easy-to-use, high-end (expensive) device, many want to make profit thinking that we’re clueless moneybags who can’t do anything with our own two hands.

isn’t this feature in Eupod ? I remember trying it once.. but maybe if i payed for it, it would be more useful?

what’s ridiculous is that this “hack” is possible simply by creating an empty file with a certain filename (i don’t remember offhand what it is, but it’s well-documented) within the data structure of the ipod, which you see whenever you dock your iPod.
in windows all i had to do was create a god damn textfile with the right name, and boom. people need software to do everything for them now that they’ve got their ipods; now all their time is spent cataloguing their music and defragging their hard drives.

This hack could be done without an app using the Mac OSX terminal, I heard about it before this App even existed.
