TEN Technology has announced three new naviPro eX models to its line of wireless remote controls for iPod. The new naviPro eX wireless remote models support all iPod models with Dock Connector, and offer additional functions including navigation of playlists, albums and chapters, shuffle and repeat modes. The naviPro receiver comes in three models—naviPro eX, naviPro eX black and naviPro eX mini. In addition, remote control of iPod photo slideshow is anticipated shortly with the same naviPro eX remote controller. The naviPro eX will begin shipping by end of January, and the naviPro eX mini and naviPro eX black in February. The suggested retail price for all models is $49.95.

I have purchased a TEN Technology naviPro EX Remote Control. I have upgraded my ipod with the new apple firmware release [ipod updater 2005-03-23, software version 1.1].
With the naviPod EX receiver connected to the ipod & the apple iPod photo AV cable plugged into the naviPod EX receiver and into the AV connectors on my TV, no images show on the TV during a slideshow. If I play music with a slideshow, the music comes through the TV, but no images. To test that slideshows and the apple iPod photo AV cable work properly, I plugged the AV cable directly into the ipod and then to the TV, and the slideshow displayed images on the TV. I reconnected the naviPod EX receiver to the ipod & the apple iPod photo AV cable to the naviPod EX receiver and then into the AV connectors on my TV. Again, no images show on the TV during a slideshow. I tried this on three different TVs with the same results each time - no images during a slideshow.
I contacted TEN Technology to determine is this was a issue, given there is no indication of this issue on their website, FAQ or notices to customers. I have spoken to TEN Tech a few times about this remote and no one ever mentioned the “oh yeah, you gotta use the dock and a different cable” issue.
The reply from TEN Technology:
“This is a known issue. You have to connect the video via the iPod Photo Dock which as S-Video output also. This is because the video out the headphone jack on the iPod photo uses a 4-pin plug, not the usual 3-pin stereo plug. The naviPro receiver has only a 3-pin pass through, so will not pass through the video signal.”
...so, you have to buy ANOTHER freakin’ cable…
