Makayama has released VoiceDial, a new third-party iPhone application that lets users control their devices with their voice. The application, which requires a jailbroken iPhone, lets users dial contacts with their voice, and also supports voice-activated application and bookmark opening. The software uses a modern speech recognition algorithm that compares what the user says against voice samples that the user records and assigns to various contacts, applications, and bookmarks. Makayama VoiceDial is available now and sells for $28.

Since iPhone runs OSX, I’m surprised that Apple hasn’t implemented a version of Speakable Items for iPhone calling features. Maybe it’s coming…

This is the kind of feature I am really hoping they come out with in an update or as possible optional addition after the SDK. It sucks that you can not use your bluetooth headset to make voice calls. Even the most basic mobile phones have that feature these days. And yes, if need be, I would pay to add that feature to my non-jailbroken iPhone if it became available.

VoiceSignal FTW! The company that makes it is working on an iphone version now. I used it extensively in its Symbian version and loved it. No recording of voice tags needed.

For something that should already be on the phone… it’s been around for how many years and how many phones have this feature??
Apple is lame for not including it, but $28? GFY.

I had the Verizon Windows Mobile Pocket PC before the iPhone and had to by the Windows Voice Dial software for $39.99… So please stop complaining about the iPhone and being CHEAP!! If the iPhone had it built in AT&T;would charge you $5 month!!
