Mix: Motorola/iTunes pic, iPod rivals, iTunes Sampler, XM Radio
The first picture of one of Motorola’s new iTunes-compatible mobile phones has made its way out of CES 2005 and onto the Web.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says the iPod still has no equal, despite a number of new entries coming from CES this week. However, Creative is gaining the most traction with its Zen Micro, he says.
Apple is now offering a somewhat hidden free 13-song ‘iTunes New Music Sampler’ album to new iPod owners—or to those who restore their device or click on this link.
XM Satellite Radio says it has had discussions about a combo portable audio player and XM receiver with several companies, including Apple, but there are no current partnerships and no plans for an imminent announcement.

I don’t think Apple’s after the fans who READ rumors… I thikn they’re after ONE fan who posted NDA info.
I don’t know that they have any legal ground to go after anyone but the people who broke their NDAs. I hope TS gets off the hook.
But I DO suspect that the harm of letting competitors have your trade secrets COULD sometimes cost more than the “free publicity” of rumor sites. That hand is NOT just feeding Apple—it’s also biting. And making money (banner ads) in the process.
So I expect Apple has to protect its intellectual property, despite the enjoyment I get from rumors.

Hmmm… a minute ago I swear this page had a link from Forbes about Apple “biting the fans that feed it”...
Now it has a link to 13 free songs… much better :D

The picture of the phone isn’t the actual phone Motorolla are planning to release. If you read the other article…
“But a Motorola representative clarified on Friday that the phone shown during the keynote was not the actual iTunes phone that is slated for release this year. Instead, it was a Motorola E398 equipped with the iTunes functionality for the demonstration.”
So it’s just an E398 loaded with the firmware that will make its way into the new Apple & Motorolla phone.
