Mix: TIME, Wendland, shuffle sales, iRiver, McElhearn
TIME magazine has picked the iPod shuffle as its Gadget of the Week. “It’s very easy to write extensively about music players these days without ever mentioning sound quality, but let me set some minds at ease: it sounds great.”
In his iPod shuffle review, Mike Wendland of the Detroit Free Press praises the new device. “Apple’s new iPod Shuffle is about to be the next must-have product... Way to go, Apple. You did it again. The Shuffle is one hot new product.”
The first 100 iPod shuffles that arrived at the Apple Store in the Glendale Galleria on Monday sold out within an hour and the Northridge store was wiped out in three hours, said employee Rob Lamog.
To promote its new H10 music player, iRiver’s Web site is currently rotating between a male and a female model taking a bite out of an Apple along with the slogan “Sweeter one.”
Kirk McElhearn, author of “iPod & iTunes Garage,” has posted a sample chapter from the book for download. The chapter covers the iTunes music library.

the H10 looks really nice. i didnt catch the apple pun until i saw it listed here. i just thought they were using it cause of the vibrant colors.

LOL, their lol is funny. To get back at them, Mac’s new slogan should be:
“Ipod, sending the compitition down the river.”

The H10 looks like an *exact* clone of the Zen Touch, except with color video and nicer recording functions. It’s a little pricey at ~$275 though.

iRiver’s site is really good, I mean GOOD. Their H10 is a nice product, and being an iPod owner for quite a while, this is the first real competition for the iPod Mini. But our beloved Apple is doing it right (at least for now) with the iPod Shuffle and Photo… At least these guys came out with something nice, not quite a CLONE as the Creative (?) Zen.

How low must iRiver stoop? That really is pretty pathetic coming from a big company such as iRiver, who does actually make good products. Yet they then go and ruin it all by trying to take a dig at Apple. Pathetic.
