More aluminum iPod shuffle cases spring up
YS Design is offering two new iPod shuffle cases made form machined aluminum. The Japan-based company has recently released the HardCase Simple and the HardCase G5, which resembles the design of Apple’s Power Mac G5. While there are no apparent plans to offer them in the US or other countries, the $60 cases will begin shipping April. They can be used with a wrist strap, require a female USB cord or adapter, and weigh about 30g. The HardCase Simple can be engraved on the front or back with up to 10 characters for an extra $5. A basic image can be engraved for about $20 more.

if you ask me, this thin looks worse that helixipod’s, he had the sense to have the screws in the back and it looked alot thinner too.

Helix’s case kicks this one’s butt. The other user above was right; this makes the Shuffle look fat & squatty. Helix’s complimented the shape of the shuffle quite well, and kept the simplicity, with rear-mounted screws.

What am I missing here…this case does have screws on the rear, according to these pics:

I believe Helixipod’s case won´t go into production, a single man operation running a CAD/CAM machine with such attention to details would be much more expensive than ysdesign´s model. It´s a good example of skill but not a profitable product.

it’d be profitable if he used something like http://www.emachineshop.com

iPodLounge, didn’t one of your staff say something to Helixipod about helping him protect his design by not reviewing anything that was an obvious rip-off while he was getting his design into production? I understand this is a review, but it DOES seem like a ripoff.
What is the status of his cases anyway? I reviewed the big thread and saw that he had tentative pricing, but WHEN will his cases be available?

Hopefully, Helixipod will at least have his site up soon. Either way, since this on eis not available in the US, it makes no difference!! Since the helixipod thread was closed, I have not heard a thing!!! Beuhler, anybody, Beuhler?

Now this is neat.
See ya helixpod.
This is how a good design should look

that’s not nice.
i think helixpod’s is much nicer, and i plan on getting one when it’s available. it’s also gonna be more fairly priced than that ripoff of $60.
