During a keynote presentation Thursday at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, a Motorola executive previewed a new iTunes-compatible mobile phone with an iPod-like interface. “It syncs with a computer and the iTunes Music Store like an iPod does, and incorporates the iPod interface for navigating and playing digital music, said Ron Garriques, a Motorola executive vice president. The phone is the first of many Motorola devices that will support iTunes this year, said Garriques. He didn’t provide product details for the phone or say when it would be available.” Motorola in July announced a licensing deal with Apple to bring iTunes to its mobile phones. Last month, an Apple executive said the phone was due in the first half of 2005.

It sounds like the phone shown was just an ordinary Moto phone.

So I’m not hoping for an Apple-designed phone next week, just iTunes playback within a Moto-designed phone with a Moto-designed UI. Basically what Apple said way back when. Still a good business move, but nothing too exciting for me.

“iPhone” seems to be entirely a wishful-thinking creation of rumor sites. SOME phone may well be shown at MWSF, in a music context, but Apple-designed?  That would be cool, but I’m increasingly skeptical.

“And how many songs does this phone hold; one, two???”

have u ever heard of this tiny little things like MMC or SD-Cards? i suppose these are used for that phone (or some “onboard” memory, but that would suck). that would make up to 512MB for MMC, that makes well over one or two songs…

“But a Motorola representative clarified on Friday that the phone shown during the keynote was not the actual iTunes phone that is slated for release this year. Instead, it was a Motorola E398 equipped with the iTunes functionality for the demonstration.”

That’s not the actual phone they’re going to release.
