New case photos: iPod touch 4G, iPod shuffle 4G?

image

iLounge has received more photos supposedly showing cases for upcoming iPod models. As with the case photos discovered last week, these cases are from X-Doria, and offer a glimpse into the shape and features of the fourth-generation iPod touch and a smaller, squarish iPod that could be either the fourth-generation iPod shuffle or sixth-generation iPod nano—notably, it was referred to as the former in our e-mail exchange with the company. These new photos seem to support information published by iLounge last week claiming that the fourth-generation iPod touch will sport a back plate that is mainly flat, as well as a rear-facing camera and mic. We have thus far been unable to confirm whether the rectangular hole on the rear of the shuffle 4G/nano 6G case is for a clip or for access to some other feature. Apple is expected to announce its Fall 2010 iPod lineup at a special event scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 1., at 10:00 a.m. in San Francisco.

How exactly do these pictures confirm the microphone next to the camera?

I see what appears to be a 3G Shuffle design with a dock connector, side mounted volume buttons and…maybe…a sliding mute button. And then the rectangular face (touchscreen?) as opposed to the rounded control panel of the 3G.

Surely Apple would not recycle the design of an older model and just stick on a touchscreen. But, the 3G Shuffle was the best overall design of that line. I guess we will see on Wednesday

The 3g shuffle was the worse design they came up with so far. Glad it’s being killed..

Why would the new video shuffle have a full dock connector? Seems like it just takes up more space then just using the headphone jack like before..

@leside the little shape coming off the alleged camera hole (together making a tear-shape) suggest a microphone hole, akin to the current generation of the iPod nano (which has cases with camera/microphone holes in an identical style).
