And, of course, the guy looks like the trendy hipster that Apple so loves. He could be anyone at any college anywhere. Ugh.

Well, I guess it wasn’t the ‘new 4th Gen iPod’ ad that everybody was hoping for… =(

They cut out the bit where those wackos come and stencil over the ipod posters with some lame ### complaint about the batteries! Bastards!

The Vines are crap, so many better bands in Australia.

Two complaints about their ads to date:
1) They need to be more “worldly”. Like most apple marketing, it’s so US centric, to the point of being kitsch. I travel a fair bit and have seen ppl all over the world using iPods. Reflect this in the ads.
2) They only target the 18-35 crowd and modern music. Yet I’ve seen everyone from 50 year old college professors to teens, to mums and dads using iPods. People use the for everything from Classical Music to Talking Books.

Guess where their market is?

Jaarks - that’s why the previous silhouette one’s were so good - it removed race and location entirely.
Adam, yes there are better Aussie bands. But are their any better Aussie bands that people actually know outside of Australia? Hell, most of the bands here that I regard as better, most Australians don’t even know. At least music here is getting recognised internationally again (it was MIA throughout the entire 90s)

Appreciate that, but I feel the current ad strategy is way too narrow.

older potential customers are less likely to pay as much attention to any variant tv ads. Apple has that covered with product placement. where you say? Home magazines! All those magazines that show you all the fancy junk to spruce up your home, the latest style trends, what sofa’s are best - you know the deal. The number of time’s iPods show up in those magazines is amazing - perfect for the slightly older, home-owning, audience

Nathan, agreed. Most people don’t appreciate good music.

LOL. Yeah they need to improve their marketing message for the iPod. Then maybe sales will pick up! Haha!

I liked the add better than the Pepsi iTunes give away. The only thing I don’t like is the music, for the most part it seems to be that “new old” style which I can not stand. To show a more worldly factor, Apple could play different music. Apple should also play different music genres other than punk or whatever that music genre is. The can play classical, Rap (yuck but it would show their diversity), and my favorite, Metal (Apple would never do this).
