New iPods now available; photos inside

Bricks-and-mortar Apple Stores have started to receive their first shipments of the new 20GB color iPods introduced this morning, including the new standard 20GB iPod ($299) and 20GB U2 iPod ($329), and are selling 1GB iPod shuffles and 60GB iPods at their newly reduced prices ($129 and $399, respectively). Additionally, Apple Store employees are now wearing green promotional T-shirts touting the company’s collegiate free iPod mini (with Mac purchase) program.

What’s the actual thickness of this model? On the Apple website its listed at .57’’ which is weird since the new 20gb non U2 version is listed at .63’‘. Please enlighten me…

I was thinking they’d drop the U2 version in favor for some other band already. Geez.

Cool but they shouls have the menus like red and black colout scheme, would go better. Customisable would be cool too.

I was wondering the same thing about the thickness, because they both have EXACTLY the same specs besides the thickness and color. Maybe it was a typo???

The customizable color schemes would be awesome. Though the white ipod is cool, they should offer more colors- that would boost sales.

Yeah, they should go with something less old and stale than U2, or (preferably) just drop it altogether.

Why drop it if it’s selling?

U2 old and stale!!!??? They are a credit to rock music by embracing the future and not being afraid of it like most bands. Not to mention the coolest band on the planet and not a fad or “fly by night” one hit wonder. U2 are here to stay and that is something that Apple want to associate the ipod with.

yeah but they shouldn’t update a special edition ipod, if it’s special edition it will only be around once and for a limited time. They should have just dropped it from the lineup or kept it as it was with the same price as the color screen 20gig.

Is the Apple logo on the startup screen a graphite colour on the U2 colour iPod?
I ask as I’d like to update my icon collection of all iPods ever released (iPodophilia, available over at InterfaceLIFT.com) with this one and I had the old iPod photo with a blue apple logo.
Come to think of it, are all new colour iPods starting up with graphite or blue Apple logos? Can anyone help me on this, please? Cheers!

Will the sound quality be improved??

@Raskolnikov
My iPod with color display 30GB (ok it is a 30GB iPod photo!) shows a graphite logo. Although I am pretty sure it has done since I got it (or at least since iPod software 1.1).
