New photos of Alpine’s iPod-ready receivers
At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Alpine Electronics of America announced iPod-ready in-dash receivers to allow seamless control of up to 10,000 songs in the car. Japanese website AV Watch has posted several photos of the Alpine unit from the recent ALPS Show (equivalent to CES) in Japan. “Alpine has engineered a unique interface box that takes advantage of the iPod Accessory Protocol allowing audio, track information, and control signals to be communicated over the Ai-NET system bus to the in-dash receiver. This seamless integration provides emulation of the iPod’s controls through an Alpine head unit using both the front panel buttons and the wireless remote control.”

“Aiwas suck. Get an alpine with an ainet to rca adapter.”
I had an AIWA with a front audio jack and I got distortion and some other crap, quality was ok. BUt when I got a head unit ( an Alpine, no less ) set up abosve like tbdeans quote, the SOUND was unbelievable AND with a detachable face and an audio input, whenever I turned off my truck, a nasty beep would NOT stop even after my key out was out of my ignition , prompting me to pull out the jack so that the “stealth” part of the AIWA would close and hide the face. YUCK!!

I’m real interested in the Alpine solution to using my Ipod in the car but am unclear about the limitation on the number of playlist and songs the Alpine memory allows you to have. Any info on this is appreciated.
