With more than 2,000 votes from iLounge readers, our latest poll — “Which of the following next-gen add-on features most interests you?” — has ended. Readers could pick from features including HD Radio, iPod remote + mic, a joypad/controller, a plug-in keyboard, and a larger screen, choose to vote for some other feature, or say they were satisfied as-is.
Receiving more than a quarter of the vote — 28% — most readers said they were most interested in HD Radio, followed by larger screens with 22%. The next four responses were tightly contested with only four percentage points separating the options. 14% of respondents said they were interested in iPod remote + mic add-ons, 11% expressed interest in some other feature, an equal amount said they were satisfied as-is, while 10% said they were interested in a plug-in keyboard. Only 5% of respondents said they were interested in a joypad or controller add-on, suggesting that most must be at least “okay” with the gaming controls currently offered by Apple’s iPods and iPhones. Thanks for your responses!
Our new poll looks into the past as we’d like to know when you bought your first iPod or iPhone. Were you on board for the original launch seven years ago, or did you buy your first iPod or iPhone in the years following? Or perhaps you purchased your first iPod or iPhone in the last year, or maybe you don’t own one at all? The latest iLounge poll, “How long has it been since you bought your earliest iPod/iPhone?” lets you answer that question. As always, the iLounge Poll is on the left hand column of the main iLounge.com home page. Cast your vote today!

This is a very interesting poll question! It seems like ages now since I got my 2G iPod mini in 2005. I later got the 2G shuffle in 2007 and the 1G touch this year. I first saw the iPod when I was in Hawaii in 2002 and was skeptical about it. Now after having one for three years I can say Apple took a good idea Eiger Labs had - and reinvented it. Now with Apple’s all out focus on the iPhone and the recent missteps with the iPod over the last year, I wish Apple would go back to what made them great in the first place.

HD radio seems to be as wanted to the US readers as One Seg TV is wanted by Japanese iphone users. I’m in Japan so, HD radio isn’t a viable option, therefore I voted for the larger screen. However, the majority of Japanese cellular phones are now One Seg compatible, the major reasons I have not purchased an iphone is the lack of a decent camera, inability to record video, no One Seg TV tuner, and (because I’m being Mr. Needy right now) no “osaifu ketai” roughly translated, wallet phone. Osaifu ketai is basically a chip in the phone that you can load with money, like a gift card, you lay your phone on the receiver and your payment is made when you hear the chime. There are a growing number of vending machines, convenience stores, and retail stores that accept this payment method. If you’re going to make an “all in one phone” might as well include the majority of the already available “perks” for that area. Regional marketing.

I would love to ask the people who respond with “I don’t own an iPod or iPhone” why they’re visiting iLounge.com

I hope that Surya’s post was not in response to my post. I own an iPod video, two iPod Classics, and the 1G ipod touch. My friend went on leave and I used his 3g iPhone and compared it to my 913SH by Softbank. I visit iLounge and respect their site for the unbiased reviews and the overall content. Just like iLounge I do my research before I make my statements/posts.
