Next iPad, iPad mini claimed for March?

Recent reports claim that both the fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini will launch in March, as noted by an analyst.
iLounge has heard numerous indications, including several from reliable sources, that Apple will be capable of launching the next full-sized iPad in March, right around the one-year anniversary of the third-generation model. Based on what we’ve seen at this point, the device will have a dramatically thinner bezel—think only a little larger than the 9.7” screen on the left and right sides, a thinner body, and a chamfered body design that’s effectively an elongated version of the iPad mini and iPod touch. Our sources are not so confident about the supposed March launch of the next iPad mini; however, all indications are that its body will be nearly identical to the current model, with a Retina display inside.

A redesigned iPad with a similar bezel to the existing Mini makes sense. Though honestly the important change is that the next generation needs to get thinner and lighter again, hopefully by employing something like Sharp’s IGZO panels to improve the energy efficiency of the screen, and especially reduce the need for LED backlighting and thus allow them to shrink the battery back to a reasonable size again.
A retina iPad mini this quickly? I hope they don’t sacrifice the things that make the Mini so great, e.g. its size and weight. If they make it all heavy and thick like the current iPad Gen 4 that would be a horrible mistake.
Personally I’d like to see some accomodation at least in the full sized iPad for keyboards, in particular say moving the lightning port to the long side so a keyboard attached there could draw power from the existing battery and thus be smaller and lighter. Even better would be a magnetic solution like the Surface has but that’s probably too much too ask right?

I highly doubt the full-size iPad will see a reduction in the width of the side bezels. That’s where your thumbs go when holding it in portrait mode, especially one-handed. The iPad mini gets away with thin side bezels because it’s light enough and narrow enough to be held in a way that doesn’t put your thumb somewhere on the front surface of the device.
