Numerous Apple TV users unable to update?
A number of second-generation Apple TV users are reporting that they are unable to update their units. According to a lengthy thread on Apple’s Support Communities site, afflicted users are left unable to update their devices using the devices themselves or via iTunes. One user indicated that Apple is aware of the issue, which is reportedly related to problems with the company’s various update servers. That same post indicated that Apple hoped to have the problem fixed by tomorrow, June 28; notably, the problem does not appear to affect all users, and seems to be at least slightly related to the user’s geographic location. [Thanks, Jeff]

I bought an Apple TV this weekend and cannot update the OS. iTunes downloads the update and then displays a message box stating that the download is corrupt.
I called Apple tech support yesterday and was told that they’re aware of the problem with the update servers and they don’t know when it will be fixed.
BTW, I live in the Northern VA

Successfully updated the ATV I just bought with no issues. Might be worth trying to use an OpenDNS or Google DNS server while doing the update. I know that my iTunes downloads get served from the wrong server (which is slow because of this issue). This might give you a different update server (that works) if it has the same issue as the iTunes servers. If you are using an alternate DNS then turn it off for the update and see what happens.

I have my home router configured to use OpenDNS. I also tried Google’s DNS over the weekend and it didn’t make any difference.
I tried to update this morning and I’m still getting a corrupt download.
Thanks for the suggestions.
