O2 to launch iPhone 3G at 7 a.m., limited one per person
O2 will officially launch the iPhone 3G in the United Kingdom on July 11 at 7:00 a.m. local time, and has also imposed a sales limit of one-per-person on the new handset. “Orders will be placed on a first come first served basis,” O2 said in a text message to customers explaining the need for the sales limitation. “We will be writing to you again before the 11th with details about how you can place your order.”

It’s worth noting that only O2 shops on the high street can open this early. Those inside presincts and malls are at the behest of the owners, and can’t open until 9 (or in the case of my local one, 9.30!)

As an existing O2 (non iPhone as far as they know) customer, I got the following text yesterday:
“Apple iPhone 3G lands 11/07. We will text you shortly before with order details. As demand is very high, orders will be on a first come first served basis”

I pre-registered when it was announced but haven’t had a text, anybody else in this situation?
(Current O2 customer, out of contract).

Depends on the mall. My local O2 shop is in one, but they have confirmed they are opening at 7.00am.

I had booked an appointment with my local O2 shop to go in today (the 5th) to pre-register and sign-up for an iPhone contract. Thus avoiding the queues on the 11th.
When I turned up I was informed that they had been told not to do pre-registration. Apparently they had phoned everyone who had pre-registered and told them, but they didn’t have my phone number.
Something fishy going on? I wonder if they’ve got so little stock that they wouldn’t have had any to sell on the day if they’d allowed pre-orders?
