Oakley debuts new case for 5G iPods

Oakley has introduced a new case for fifth-generation iPods. Made of ballistic nylon, the 99037 iPod case features a flip-top design, play-through screen and Click Wheel protector, and snap closure. The case is priced at $35 and will be available soon at the online Apple Store and Apple retail locations. Oakley said a “Sheetmetal” version of the 99037 case would be available in Spring 2007.

yeah, oakley’s stuff slides from neat & original to completely butt-ugly. This unfortunately lands squarely on butt-ugly.

No need to worry about your iPod getting jacked with one of these. It looks like a damn cigarette case that some old biker dude would carry around. Didn’t these folks try and integrate glasses and an MP3 player? Guess it was time to jump on the bandwagon.

This case doesn’t quite scream “me too” as much as it whispers it while stifling a yawn. Tear off that silly “flava” tag and you couldn’t tell it apart from a dozen other offerings. The big O seems to be losing its “cool.”

Oakley is very big with law enforcement, Armed Forces, paramilitary, fire departments, and the like. On that note, this case will probably sell like hotcakes.

Normally I love Oakley’s sensibilities. But I simply hate BS written on labels for the sake of have BS written on labels.

what the #### are most of these people saying??? dont they know whats good design when it hits them slap bang straight into their faces… oakley are a god send to the design world, bringing a little inovation from all the gucci, dolce and gabbana, fcuk crap. if it means that amzing objects like this are spared from those who have pink fluffy waist-coats with chiwawas poking out their burberry coverd handbag then i suppose its a good thing
