“Apple Computer said Wednesday that about 5 million free songs have been given away through a Pepsi promotion, far fewer than the 100 million tracks that could have been redeemed.
An Apple representative said the music giveaway was probably the biggest ever of its kind but admitted that the company gave away fewer songs than it had intended.
‘We had hoped the redemptions would have been higher,’ said Katie Cotton, Apple’s vice president of worldwide corporate communications. Customers with winning bottle caps have until Friday to redeem their free music tracks.”

I agree with jacko..5% is double what most of these types of promos get..Apple marketing team should have known that before starting and costed accordingly. Also any company dealing with Pepsi or coke should know that the distribution is run by independent bottlers..nothing can therefore be guaranteed up front on timing or depth of special caps product availability by region.

I don’t drink pepsi like I use to but I did buy about 3 or 4 and I never won one. My wifey on the other hand won 2 out of about 6 or 7. And she gave them to me. She wasn’t even playing,

In Mississippi, we are not getting the Pepsi bottles with the giveaway caps on them. I haven’t seen them anywhere. Can’t redeem them if you can’t get them.

First IPOD-Lounge post!
I haven’t had a soda in 3 years, 4 months and I didn’t want to start again just for a few free songs. Right now I work at KU which is a Coke campus. Now if they had done Rolling Rock beer, I would have been all over it.

It took between 4-6 weeks to see Pepsi bottles with the aforementioned caps in Eastern PA, and they were all gone within 3 weeks from the stores I saw them. Seems like a short run to me. I however did use the tilt trick to get 5 songs free : )

11 free albums + 2 songs from iTMS from Pepsi promo. Did not spend a single penny on the product. Every cap was donated or scavenged.

I saw one winning cap. At my office, I understand that we finally got the bottles in. Now that the promotion is just days from being over… No real surprise here.
I looked in the grocery stores during the promotion and have yet to find a single 20oz bottle for sale on the shelves.
I really think the 100,000,000 claim was just a ploy for publicity. Apple really didn’t expect to be giving away 100,000,000 songs. I bet they were expecting the low turn out. Even with the 25 degree hack.
Really, they haven’t even sold 100,000,000 songs. Did you really think they would give 100,000,000 away?

Wow. I am a Pepsi drinker here in Minnesota, and there were bottles with yellow caps everywhere. Grocery, gas station even in the machines where I work.
I redeemed 56 free songs over the duration of the giveaway.

I was able to get 20 songs out of (approximately) 30 bottles purchased. Just about every 20oz bottle I saw up until last week had a yellow cap, even the bottles in the vending machine in my office.
Now I just have to redeem all of the songs before tomorrow…

Pepsi really dropped the ball on this one. I’m not sure you can blame Apple. They’re not the ones distributing the bottles.
Fortunately, the bottle caps were readily available in the Washington DC metro area.

Not available in my midwest area as well weeks after the promo started, and then only on 20 oz bottles.
Something sounds fishy here to me. I am certain Pepsi was closely tracking redemtion rates nationally and regionally. Why express surprise at low redemtion level days before prom ends.
If they are really disappointed why not extend the promo? Why not extend it to other sized Pepsi? Why not extend it to Mt. Dew or other Pepsi brands?
Hmmm…

I was able to redeem 6 songs during the promotion. I just wish they ran the promotion longer cuase the bottle took some time to show up.

I do not want tunes. I do not want to enter surf board contests. I do even know what a transformer is. Can I just find out how to redeem my winning bottle cap. It says buy one get one. HELP!
