I always thought Apple should make an iPod-OS based full-sized DJ console machine.  With a larger, higher res screen, 120GB harddrive, hardware EQ, and all the output/mixing options of the pro machines, DJ’s would love it.  No more carrying around 4 cases of CDs to a party.

I like iDJ box idea! In the interim, they could add in a scratch feature to the iPod, so you could scratch like a record using the scroll wheel.

Not so professional, but fun when your sitting on the train!

If you’re referring to using the ipod remote as a sound effect trigger, I agree, yet in a more moderate (and more appropriate) manner.

If you’re referring to the scratch feature on existing iPods… I would certainly never use it, but there may be a market for it.  Still, your rudeness is unnecessary.

If you’re refrerring to the DJ-box comment, I think you are ignoring a market that uses music more than you ever will, and carries around more CDs every day than you have in your entire library.  I think there would be a market for it.  If not Apple, someone will build it, and DJs will go HD someday.  Same goes for the roaming karaoke people who carry around 600 video cds to pizza places

the idea regarding Ipod Kiosk has been available in Japan for quite some time now, even though they do it with MD players… basicaly you buy a blank MD, go to a machine, pay your fee, and you acn download the latest albums.  That way the record labels don’t have to manufacture their product on two medias (CD and MD) and the users pay less because there’s less material cost on the record labels….

those MD kiosks work really nicely, having used one myself. A nice-ish interface, simple to use, audio previews (through headphones), and some even let you print out a tracklisting. Oh, and many have a stand for catalogues showing all the new additions.

a variation of the iTunes Music Store for iPod kiosks would be pretty damn cool. (place them in music stores, with a small cut of the profits from the kiosk going to the store)

Real DJs mix off of Vinyl. I just don’t see how you can possibly mix using CDs. You can’t scratch, clamp, or do any of that suff that you can with LPs.

No on-device playlists until G3?!? No queueing?!? No dynamic BPM tag fields?!?

The New Rio Karma has crossfading and pitch shifting. That’s a core requirement for “real” DJing.
