Philips has launched a new webpage dedicated to its upcoming accessories for the Apple iPad. Included on the page are a new sleeve-style soft case that offers a reversible design with different inner and outer colors, a leatherette case with a velcro-closure top flap, neoprene lining, and added padding for the screen, and a screen protector. Also shown on the page are a device-agnostic portable speaker and a pair of headphones; no exact product names, pricing, or release dates have yet been announced.

I’m going to experiment with using the iPad without a screen protector, which I consider to be a practically mandatory purchase for an iPod or iPhone. Unlike the pocket size players, I won’t be exposing my iPad to the outdoor elements or carrying it next to sharp objects like car keys.

I’ve never used a Screen Protector or Case for my iPhone 3GS. The only damage it has sustained is some corner scuffs from when I juggled it whilst drunk. (I didn’t mean to juggle it, I was trying to make a call). It also has a permanent scratch-like mark across the screen. I keep it in my other pocket; the one without keys or coins.
My brother’s iPhone has a rigid plastic case which splits open when dropped; It absorbs the impact so the iPhone doesn’t get damaged. He can’t play certain games without taking the case off.
My sister’s iPhone had a cheap silicone case and expensive screen protector. It fell 3 feet off the kitchen bench on it’s back corner and shattered the screen. The screen protector held the screen together in a functional state for two weeks while she waited for her replacement 3GS.

The ipad NEEDS to have a portable keyboard and cd/dvd drive to make it more efficiant. Every laptop on the face of the earth worth buying has one, quit F*cking waiting apple!
And who cares about the 50,000,000 casses and screen protector accessories, the only importand accessories will be the ones that make the 100,000,000 college students want the ipad more than a laptop…
PORTABLE KEYBOARD AND CD/DVD DRIVE!
