PocketDock for iPods for $17
Dealmac: SendStation’s PocketDock for third-generation iPods is back in stock at MegaMacs.com for $16.99 plus around $8 shipping. We still haven’t found a cheaper price elsewhere. (MacMall charges the same but adds an inexplicable $24 or more for shipping.) The PocketDock converts the iPod’s docking port into a 6-pin FireWire port.

I just did a check, ecost.com has the pocketdock on sale for $14.29… if you spend more than $25 you get shipping for free; Maybe you can purchase a 2G adapter, or some other goodie that you’ve been looking to buy, and save a couple bucks on shipping.

Can I charge my iPod with this when connected to a Windows laptop?

only if your laptop has a 6-pin firewire output. Most all windows based laptops have 4-pin firewire outputs which do not provide power to a firewire divice like the iPod, so the answer to your question is ‘no’. And if your laptop did some how have a 6-pin firewire ouput, you wouldn’t need this adapter to use it to charge your iPod.

although, this device is a lot cheaper than buying another dock for traveling…
i’ll be buying this for the sole purpose of NOT having to grab my dock cable when away from the house.
