The most recent Lounge Poll, “Which iPod nano will you buy?”, is now closed.
With over 7,300 votes cast, a majority of responding readers indicated that they preferred black nanos to white ones, with almost twice as many picking black 2GB models (7%) over white 2GB models (4%), and black 4GB models (44%) over white 4GB models (24%). Most interestingly, six times as many people indicated interest in the more expensive 4GB model as for the less expensive 2GB model, with only 11% of respondants opting for 2GB, and 68% opting for 4GB. We were also surprised to see just what fraction of readers said they would buy a nano: 79% said they’d buy one of the four models, while only 21% said they would not.
Complete results are available in Read More below, and at the Lounge Poll archives. Our new poll, “Which feature do you most want Apple to add to iPods?”, is now open. You can find it on the left column below Ask iLounge.

What is so surprising about these results? People want the black one, instead of the white one… of course they do, Apple hasn’t offered a black ipod before. People want a 4 GB? Yeah of course they do, the minis they had or could have had were bigger than the 2 GB. Why would you downgrade in size if you could stay the same but drop the form factor exponentially? And what is surprising about 4/5 iLoungers buying these? People here buy the newest iPods as soon as they come out, we’re diehards.

is the U2 ipod not counted as black?

Nah, I wouldn’t count it as black, because you have the U2 part to go along with it. Many people (myself included) who are not the biggest U2 fans didn’t want the iPod even though we liked the black. I think the all black nano is more attractive than the U2 black and red model.

Yes, because the only difference between the mini and the nano is the color screen......
Jen, if storage space is all that matters to you why didn’t you just buy a 20gb ipod for only 50 bucks more then the mini? The same reason you didn’t buy the regular ipod is the same reason people buy a nano over the mini. If I wanted to carry a brick, I would get into contracting. Jealousy is a bitter emotion....

“Jealousy is a bitter emotion....”
Yes it is, and we can tell you’re completely jealous and intimidated by Jen’s monstrous schlong
Sorry, the mini for many users is a much better iPod than the nano. It’s sure not jealousy that fuels this feeling - I wouldn’t trade my 1G mini for a brand new nano even though it’s technically an upgrade. I’ve ranted enough about what I don’t like about the nano in the forums so I’ll spare you a repeat, but your attempts at calling people who don’t like the nano “jealous” is childish to say the least. Gods forbid someone doesn’t like your new materialistic attempt at buying yourself a personality.

What is the next and newest ipod (regular ipod - between 20 and 60GB) to be released and what is it going to be like. What kind of upgrades and when might it be released? I want to buy a 60GB but im afraid at the rate they release new versions, im going to buy one and then something new will come out immediately after. Any suggestions?

“im going to buy one and then something new will come out immediately after. Any suggestions?”
Sure. Wait until the next model comes out, then buy the old model from one of the clearance sales at Amazon or elsewhere. You get a substantial discount for buying “last year’s model”, plus you don’t have to worry about it being immediately obsolete because it already has been.
