Pope presented with iPod nano
Pope Benedict XVI was given an iPod nano today by a group of Vatican Radio employees. In honor of the pope’s first visit to the radio’s broadcasting headquarters, he was presented with a 2GB white nano pre-loaded with special Vatican Radio programming and classical music. It was engraved with the words “To His Holiness, Benedict XVI” in Italian.
“The pope’s new 2GB digital audio player already was loaded with a sampling of the radio’s programming in English, Italian and German and musical compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky and Igor Stravinsky,” reports the Catholic News Service. “The iPod also contains an English-language radio drama on the life of St. Thomas a Becket and a 10-minute feature on the creation of Vatican Radio, with original sound clips of the inventor of the radio, Guglielmo Marconi, and Vatican Radio’s founder, Pope Pius XI.”

“... and musical compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky and Igor Stravinsky…”
Little did the Pope know that the music is pirated.

Knowing the collection of stuff the Catholic church stole, sorry “acquired” during the past 1500 years, they probably own the intellectual property rights to all the classic artists…

“the inventor of the radio, Guglielmo Marconi”... Horse Feathers! Nikoli Tesla invented the radio and published his papers in several different languages, including Italian, a few years before Marconi decided to “invent” it for his personal gain.

2 GB? You’d think they could have at least sprung for the 4 GB. Guess they need their pennies to cover all those lawsuits.

...the inventor of the radio, Guglielmo Marconi... Horse Feathers!
Dave: every group—including the Italians—is entitled to their dillusions. Though I wonder if a German-born Pope would be so accepting as to deny an Austrian-Hungarian born (sorta like German…well, maybe…if one really, REALLY squints) Serb-American (i.e., Tesla) his due.
Then again, the Canadians also have their own radio inventor (Fessenden, who supposedly was the first to broadcast voice as opposed to code), and if one ignores the science (or lack thereof) behind the patents, there’s a couple of Americans (Ward, Loomis) who managed to score a couple of patents between themselves for a similar theory of wireless commnunications in the 1870s, even if there’s some real debate on whether the theory really worked or it was all smoke and mirrors (the earliest successful experiments supposedly took place in 1866, decades before Tesla’s own working experiments).
And here people thought the patent office’s incompetence was a recent thing.

It’s weird.
I don’t believe in God(s) but I read the reactions there, and I can only imagine the fury of Jewish or Muslim believers if these comments were directed to them.
But as long as it’s the catholic church, it’s ok to bash them.

Hey Jack…
It’s probably one of two things: Either, it’s ok for members of a community to poke fun or ridicule their own community. Or, it’s an indication that the children of one of Abraham’s three sons are a little more laid back than those of the other two.
I s’pose there’s a third option… and you are about to go on a crusade against all these blasphemers.

Oh.. personnaly I don’t care, and since my favorite movie is Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” I’ve got my own view about believers… but frankly imagine one second a joke about jewish people (Ipod related, of course, to stay ontopic), I bet it would be erased in the next 2 hours.

Does the Pope have any OTHER pop culture gadgetry in his posession that we may not know about, or is the iPod really THAT popular, that even the Pope has to have one…..?

Yeah hold on a tic… giving away and/or selling a pre-loaded iPod is illegal! WTF?
Guess the pope is above the law…?

“My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison
“Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum

“There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”
-the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen
I invite all of you who are brave enough to approach the Church with an open mind and a sincere heart. You don’t have to convert; just learn more about what is apparently a sore subject for some of you. You may be surprised at the beauty of what you find when you honestly and humbly search for the truth. And, as a bonus, you may just replace your bitterness with understanding and peace!
Viva il Papa Benedetto!

I’ve researched plenty over the years and lets just say that none of the information I found made me want to convert in any way. Not like I would have anything to convert to…
Religion is like an opinion. It does nothing but blind you from another possible truth. Eventually, possibilities become realities… eventually.
