PsiberAudio has announced the availability of its PAS2 and PAS2+ audiophile-grade preamps for the iPod. The devices feature an integrated cradle for the iPod and iPod mini, and a smaller slot for the iPod shuffle. They offer a high stability, low impedance power supply for the iPod and a Burr Brown double buffered subwoofer output. “These devices from PsiberAudio link into any existing Hi-Fi system to allow the iPod to become the center of an audiophile grade high fidelity music system,” the company says. The PAS2 sells for $185, while the PAS2+ costs $245.

Interesting website; now I generally like the sound and performance of tubed amps, mind you, but why does this seem like oh so much foolishness, where old school is trying to jump on the bandwagon, rather than trying to teach old dogs new tricks. I’d NEVER consider my Shuffle as audiophile quality regardless of file format--my 3G and 4G could easily be, but I don’t usually rip into a lossless filetype--so I have to seriously question why anyone SHOULD build a device that fawns over the tiniest iPod.
If I were to hook my 4G up to any one of my audio systems, I think I’d rather use a very good set of interconnects and forget adding more electronics (and the possibility of more noise) to the setup. But there are BOUND to be fools who will happy to soon part with their dead presidents.

I ordered direct from Singapore and it was CHARGED twice to Paypal but never delivered and one of their e-mail addresses bounces, the other provides no response. It’s two guys , listed on their web site. Paypal wont dispute the charge even! Ugh. Ordered in 2007. No response throughout 2008. Will have to do a credit card charge back if I can. Their dealer link is just an e-mail address, and a search shows them to have NO dealers, actually. RIP OFF ALERT.
