Radio Shack warns of iPhone 4 shortages
In a posting to its Facebook account, Radio Shack is warning customers that its stocks of iPhone 4 will be severely constrained. “The demand for iPhone 4 has far exceeded expectations across the industry. Due to limited supply, we will do our best to help you understand what to expect on launch day,” the company says. “In some cases, stores that took requests will not receive the iPhone 4 on June 24. We are sorry for any confusion and disappointment regarding this and will share future availability as soon as we have more information…. The quickest way to confirm that your store will have inventory is to call the store this week. For those who placed a Customer Request, please understand that due to limited supply we may not be able to fulfill all requests. We are making every effort to contact all customers who placed requests to let them know the status of phone availability.” Radio Shack also notes that all iPhone 4 pick-ups must be done by noon on June 24, or else the phone will be made available to the next person on the list. Wow, it look really bad for everyone that is planning on standing in line to get their hands on the new idevice. Even for those that have placed them on order for in store pickup.

It’s worse than that. Most Radio Shacks won’t be selling them at all. I understand from my local Radio Shack that there are just 6 for the eastern region of my county on Long Island, NY. They dropped pre-orders the night before and anyone who signed up won’t be getting one at all. Adding insult to injury, they offered a 10% off coupon online that doesn’t apply to Apple products.

Why isn’t Radio Shacks management doing something to correct this? I understand from visiting their site, that stores that did NOT take pre-orders will be getting some phones, and stores that DID take pre-orders will not be getting any! The distrcit manager’s of Radio Shack really screwed the pooch this time. Loyal customers will remember this, and cease shopping there. If you can’t depend on a promise made, why patronize them any longer? If the Radio Shack management wants to correct this, re-distribute the allocation to those stores, and buyers, who stood in line for HOURS on June 15th to get their pre-order reservation. Aching feet, frustration, anger and disappointment is not a just reward for those who made this effort. Are you listening Radio Shack management?
