Samsung parodies iPhone lineups in new Galaxy ad

Samsung has started to air a new commercial for its Galaxy S II phone, in which it pokes fun at those who line up to purchase new iPhones. The commercial is set outside several Apple retail stores, and shows customers waiting line for an iPhone, only to see another person using a Galaxy S II, and inquiring as to what the handset is. The Galaxy S II owners then boast of the device’s larger screen and 4G data speed, much to the chagrin of those waiting in line. The commercial is available for viewing on YouTube, or in embedded form below.

This is a pretty smart ad in that it both explains why their product is a good alternative AND pokes fun at Apple via the stereotypes that a large percentage of the populace, even among those that use Apple products, hold. With the majority of iPhone and Android smartphone buyers being first timers to either ecosystem, this seems a good way to let you feel smart about choosing something other than an iPhone.

Oh dear Samsung just fell into the Pepsi trap…

Never name your competitor unless you want to always be seen as number two in the market.

Yeah they would wish to have these lines out of Samsung stores (non existent) but at the moment they just want to make fun of them.

If you need a commercial to make you feel smart, well…

Oh, sb, is there nothing remotely non-Apple you can handle with grace? The entirety of Apple’s advertising campaign for years now has been devoid of substance and does nothing but try to make you feel good about Apple products. Whatever veiled insult you want to make at Samsung customers for liking this commercial would come back a million-fold at any Apple product user who ever found anything likable about an Apple commercial.

One thing for sure. Once you’ve used a 4G network (at least the Verizon 4G/LTE), putting up with 3G speeds is like being banished to coach after flying first class.

I have a 4S but am not a rabid defender of any brand. I thought that ad was pretty clever.
