SendStation giving away 1,000 PocketDock iPod adapters
SendStation Systems has announced that it is giving away 1,000 free FireWire PocketDock adapters. The tiny PocketDock lets you connect a standard 6-pin FireWire cable to the dock connector of any iPod, enabling you to sync/charge your iPod with a FireWire cable or use older iPod accessories. The offer is available while supplies last or until December 24, 2005 and is limited to one PocketDock per person.

If only someone would make something like this that lets you sync the iPod nano and 5G by firewire.

I think the Sik Din is the better product: the connector is slim, and it locks. The Sendstation products are too big to fit through most cases, and other than the original version (what they’re giving away), they don’t lock. It’s a shame that Sik doesn’t come out with a USB version.

I have both the PocketDock FireWire (which I purchased almost two years ago and still use every day), and a PocketDock Line Out USB, which I use in my car and at home to hook up the iPod to the home stereo.
Those things are marvelous and as small as they can be. Go and get one, free or not!

I was planning to buy one of these when I had my 2nd generation iPod to work with the car charger. What was the price before the promo?

It’s loss leader marketing - the firewire pocketdock is soon to be obsolete anyway, since no new iPod supports firewire syncing. The idea is that since the $6.80 shipping charge is fixed no matter how many other non-free Sendstation items you buy - and is waived if you buy over $75 worth of items - you will be encouraged to buy other items aside from the free, nearly obsolete FW Pocketdock.
