Sharper Image offers unique iPod products

Sharper Image recently added three new ZipConnect products designed for the iPod and other MP3 players, including two speaker systems and a massage chair with built-in speakers.

Each ZipConnect sound system comes with a universal “play” ZipConnect module with a 3.5mm plug for connecting to the headphone jack of any iPod or other device. However, you can purchase a $9.95 iPod connector that lets you play and charge your iPod through the Dock Connector port.

imageThe aptly named iSphere ($149.95) is an all-in-one three-speaker iPod system that is “ideal where big sound is desired from a small footprint.” It has dual aluminum-cone speakers and subwoofer which “deliver amazingly rich, dynamic, full-range stereo sound.”

imageThe ZipConnect iPulse ($129.95) stereo speaker system features integrated ColorSync LEDs that create a lighshow that plays in sync with the music. It also features dual aluminum-cone speakers. “This colorful new stereo speaker system for your iPod or MP3 digital music collection is as fun to watch as it is to hear,” says Sharper Image.

imageSharper Image’s iJoy ($999.95) is a massage chair with built-in speakers and subwoofer that “blends music and massage into the ultimate relaxation experience.” The chair’s armrest has a small alcove for your iPod, and features “incredibly realistic” Human Touch Technology (HTT) Robotic Massage, one-touch power recline, and a built-in cup holder. The first one is ugly, I wouldn’t ever buy that, the 2nd, well I’m not big on flashy lights. But the chair, now if I had a bunch of money to burn for a chair i would rarely use.  .  . let me assure all of you, i’d buy it, just to have it. Being massaged while listening to your music?

Many people before me have said what I am about to paraphrase . .

What is with all the “iProducts” ?? I mean just because something is made for ipods does not really mean you have to put i before it. I mean most of the crappy products out there have i before it. iTrip, iMic. . .whatever, and now 3 more. Its crazy. I mean yea, it makes sense, sure, but its just way way overdone.

I wonder if Sharper Image will have to remove the ‘i’ from the front of it’s product names???

The iPulse looks and sounds awesome!

The “i” - yeah, it’s all just companies cashing in on the popular thing-of-the-moment (not unlike how in the mid/late-90s everything was cyber-this and cyber-that). And yes, waaay overdone.

Unless it’s got a dedicated dock and no other connector, all the product descriptions explicitly say “works with iPod or any digital music player”. What next, are they going to change the spelling of the iNternet? Because, hey, you can get music and stuff for your iPod on it!

What? No intergral iONIC Breeze?

i think all these are pretty ugly, but i could use the chair.  and i think too many things have ‘i’ also, but that lets us (ipod owners) know the differnce becuase a chair or ‘iChair’ so we know it’s compatible with the ipod. as we know, there are many ipod owners with money and who would buy anything for their ipod, so if they see a speaker, they might thing “well, i want one that i can dock my ipod in” and if they see a speaker with a name that has a prefix of ‘i’ they’ll know it’s for the ipod.

i actually work at the sharper image, and while the whole zipconnect system is sorta neat, i’ve been impressed by the chair more than anything. i sat in it one day and hooked my PSP up to it and that was a ton of fun, the speakers aren’t half bad, although we’ve not been able to figure out who makes them. the company is expecting people to really go ga-ga over these products…which i’m not sure is realistic.

All of it is a bit too funky, but that has always been Sharper Image’s trademark. Still a fun store to browse through when you come upon one.

Made for Funky Masses.

so i work for sharper image as well.  Just hope these speaker systems last longer than the ionic breezes.  The sound is OK, but the new Altec-Lansing boom box (the tube) has all others beat.
