Sirius CEO: No satellite radio for iPod
Mel Karmazin, CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio, said he recently spoke with Apple CEO Steve Jobs about adding satellite radio to the iPod, but that there is no plan for such a partnership.
“I’ve spoken to Steve Jobs,” Karmazin said Wednesday at a media conference in New York. He declined to elaborate, other than to say that the “current thinking” at Apple is that “they don’t need to put a satellite radio in their box.”
Karmazin said Sirius has been talking to many potential partners about integrating its satellite radio technology.

I hope this is one of those things Jobs scoffs at at first and then comes around to the idea of (see flash based mp3 players).
Considering that the shuffle was in development for 10 months, this meant that even as Jobs was *still* giving interviews bashing Flash, he knew Apple was working on its own flash player.
That means that his “opinion” is not so much conviction-driven as marketing-driven.

I doubt there’s a huge market for what I’d like, but…
...it sure would be nice to have an AM tuner add-on for an iPod.
Some in this thread have mentioned FM tuners, and as a source of not only sports, but news/traffic, it’d be nice to flip on a local AM talker and get the latest weather/traffic/sports scores on my iPod.

“I wouldn’t want to pay for radio”
That’s what folks said in the early 80s about tv.
I pay $10 a month for Sirius and in return I get every NFL game and over 60 music channels.
In April I might get a XM radio for all the Red Sox games.
$10 a month - what is that 2 DVD rentals or 1/2 a cd? bargin!
