Sound Leisure has announced the Xi Jukebox, a new full-size, hand-built jukebox made specifically for the iPod. The Xi features Sound Leisure’s classic jukebox design with color-changing LED lighting and chrome fittings, along with an iPod cradle, 6 speakers (2 bass, 2 midrange, 2 high range speakers), integrated LCD screen for video playback, and remote control. “The Xi’s impact is immediate with its iconic design, vibrant color and powerful sound delivered by a newly designed six speaker system custom configured to deliver the iPod output. Hypnotic presence that refuses to shy into the background, the Xi is meant to be seen and most definitely heard,” says the company. Pricing and availability were not announced.

Who the flock is going to buy this monstrosity? I really really don’t understand. The breathalizer thing I get, it’s a bit of fun that makes that FM transmitter more than an iTrip or whatever, but this? Seriously, is anyone thinking of this?

Someone who wants an old fashioned style jukebox maybe? Businesses who want a jukebox but want more than the limited amount of CDs or records they can hold?

This is definitely more for the business owner then a home unit. It appears that there’s a plexi-glass window over the iPod, w/ a circle for access to the controls.
I could see it being a great thing for loading up w/ music videos to play the video on that screen and the audio thru the house speaker system.
I would love to see something like this at my local bar.
