SquareTrade launches accidental damage protection for iPhone
SquareTrade has announced its new accidental damage warranty for the iPhone. The warranty, which guarantees repair or reimbursement within five days, provides coverage for damage resulting from the phone being dropped, crushed, or cracked. “Like all cellular phones, iPhones get carried from place to place—from home to the office, in and out of pockets and purses. It’s inevitable that they will be dropped and sometimes break,” notes Steve Abernethy, CEO of SquareTrade. “We offer an easy solution at a fair price to protect your purchases.” Exact pricing details have yet to be released.

“fair price” that meaningless phrase always makes me chuckle.

Sounds good to me. The cost of my original iPhone reimbursed for $49.99 for a 3 year period if I destroy it? I’m going to seriously look into it…

To hz:
You could accidentally take a bricked phone and smash it beyond recognition, thereby making it appropriate for the warranty…I mean, accidents do happen

be careful with dealing with squaretrade folks. They work in conjunction with Ebay and when you really need it, they take your money and offer little service. Check there feedback on BBB as well as googling experiences on google. You really would change your mind.

Looks like they only do it within 30 days of purchase. Anyone who bought theirs the first couple months is out of luck.

iPhone warranty coverage with Squaretrade adds a 2nd and 3rd year for $50. You can add Accident protection for an additional $60. ADP can only be added at the time of warranty purchase. These are available within the first year Apple warranty. Accident claims are only available after 60 days of coverage and there is a $50 deductible on accident claims.
$110 for coverage + $50 deductible = $160 to cover a $400 phone that may soon have a value of $250. What’s the real loss after 1 year?
