from what I see, those modphone pictures look like their product is manufactured in China. ugly design and colors - horribly crafted (blech, look at their website). the crystalmini’s look really well made and vibrant with color. I know what i want for christmas now!

My personal opinion is that these will add a new style to people walking on the street. It’s flashy, it looks good, it feels good, and if anything goes wrong, you can practically get a new one for free(not suggesting something goes wrong, but that’s what people seem to think). Just look at all the people with crystal or special designs on their cell phones, so why can’t people show it off on their mp3 players?

I think this is a great idea, and a new fad that will soon be out over the world, if you don’t like it, then simply don’t get it, but you’ll be seeing these around for sure whether you like it or not.

As for Modphone’s crystal iPOD, it is obvious that the crystals are put on improperly, or even out of place, and since we’re looking at things wrong with it, the whole thing isn’t even covered by crystals, it just takes away from the whole illusion. Whereas, the crystalmini is very organized, and users seem to like it very much, hand crafted, fully covered, it seems like there is no flaw.

In any event, I think this is a great idea, and I hope it succeeds.

as if people already had problems with muggers trying to get their regular ipods, what if they get this new one? xD

Just a comparison between Modphone and cystalmini’s ipod’s ....

The Modphone’s ipod’s picture dont look all that great in the first place.. just look at the dial.. the crystals around the dial looks out of shape.  Since the crystals has no gaps, they all looks like it way too busy too and uneven also.
The price.. modphone said it cost = $500 ...  Does that include the mini ipod???Since all his/her other products requires you to ship in your phone.. I will assume it not including the cost of the mini ipod. So the cost will be $749.  500+ 249 (mini) . Double shipping charges!!!  Their shipping charges and you gotta pay to ship your phone or ipod to them.  Can you afford to be apart of your phone/ipod for a few days?  I cant!!

Crystal Mini’s picture is large and clear.  You can see the great craftsmanship behind it which looks great and the crystal sizes/desgin looks very symmetrical and tightly space.  The quailty speaks for itself.. just look at the picture and compare them both.  Plus the ipod and crystals do have warranty.  Price… $699 and that includes the Mini ipod.

$749 or $699… you tell me what to do :)

Personally .. from the pictures…..  (still waiting for the newpics from modphone)Crystalmini’s looks way better.  I would pick Crystalmini’s for my girlfriend’s x-mas present. and it is 50 bucks cheaper than Modphone.

Soooooo ugly.
What I want for the ipod (mini or not) is a scratch-proof display like on watches. The pod itself (mini) only look cool (street) with some scratches, but the display? Apple, gimmie
a safire-glass display!

You can almost buy 3 minis at this price.  Ugly and tacky, although there will be some fools out there who’d buy it just to have it.  They’re the ones who deserve to get ripped off for $700, unless they’re whack enough to buy the $900 version.

Oh wow… i love the crystalmini ipods, they are way cool for a mp3 player. it adds a twist to the ipods mini, i like this much better than any skin i have seen, very fashionable… i love it, i want one!!! i hope they can make my own design on it. WOW Warranty too!!! ...

The company CrystalMini has NO CONNECTION WITH APPLE WHATSOEVER and does not disclose that in effect you must either choose their warranty or Apple’s Warranty - not to mention that CrystalMini does not make the iPod themselves, rather they buy them and charge you in effect for a warranty.

SO MINUS CRYSTALS you’re paying around $600 dollars for a warranty that APPLE is giving you for free.

OR let’s see, keep your money, purchase the iPod from Apple have it covered for $250…at Modphone where we’ve been modifiying consumer gadgets longer than anyone.

Cover it with Size7’s and or 9’s - which LOOKS FAR BETTER THAN Size 12 coverage

AND return it to Apple (the actual maker) when there is a software problem or battery problem which CrystalMini is doing anyway in your name when there is a software or hardware failure. For example, will Crystal Mini will be repairing a broken screen? NO. They’ll be sending it to the Apple Repair center or buying you a new iPod. They can because of the extra $600 you paid CrystalMini for a warranty PLUS you’ll just be waiting longer for it’s return or replacement.

For the record regarding Coverage Issues - Modphone repairs are free.

The iPod picture to which you refer is an early sample and a very poor photo. More pictures will be posted soon.

Note - We also cover iPods in Snakeskin, Python and Stingray.

Combinations of crystals and stingray etc LOOK AMAZING!

Lastly, the new site will be up in several days.

Modphone, Inc.

The price for the iPod and Mini Coverage is $250 for either, and is a coverage only price.

NOTE that we use size 7 and 9 crystals, the size one SHOULD use, not size 12’s.  Smaller cystals are more expensive still our price for coverage is less.

Again, the current iPod picture is of a poor quality and was resized.  More pictures will go up near launch of the new site.

Modphone has contacted Apple.  Apple will gladly service iPods covered in Crystal, Diamonds, Exotic Skins etc

As long as the iPod was not opened, the warranty is not made null and void by external modification. Such as external coverage options mentioned above.

Hence there is no reason to pay such a high price to Crystal Mini - buying you a warranty you don’t need.

Why is MODPHONE so Self Promoting ??? I’ts like a low class company trying advertise them self by talking nasty about something good out there. Are you jealous of Crystalmini ? to be honest their work looks way better than yours. Here’s a clue, first get the fashion coordination of colors right, then offer a warranty for your own work, and third don’t come here to SELF PROMOTE!!! so unfashionable… eeeewk…

Posted by fashion Boy on October 7, 2004 at 12:26 AM (CDT)

LOL… MODPHONE is making excuses for POOR Craftmentship! IT’S NOT the your Poor Pictures.. it’s your Bad craftmanship! Good one fashion boy, you are right they are Low Class, after all if MODPHONE think it’s all about saving a couple of dollars by sending it to them then they missed the point…

I contacted apple store in NYC and they said they WILL NOT, i repeat, WILL NOT provide warranty to any ipod/mini which has been modified even on the cover! modphone YOU LIED!!!!

Posted by Heat on October 7, 2004 at 7:41 AM (CDT)

Modphone has indeed lied, Apple takes no responsibility for your lost data OR your after market modifications made to ANY of their prodcuts, so if Modphone crystallized an iPod for you and it was serviced at apple, they may not even send you the same unit back all together.Stop lieing for the sake of trying to get some sales modphone, its a shameful way to do business, stop trying to sell your product by trying to bash someone else’s work instead fo your own merit.Your just pathetic, i would never do business with someone who conducts themselves the way you do.Shame on you.

O look more evidence that modphone are liars, check out apple’s offcial policy regarding repairs

How do I get my iPod serviced?
Easy! Complete the iPod service request form on our website. Once we receive your service request, we will send you a shipping box so you can send your iPod to us. When we receive your iPod and confirm that the service request matches the iPod’s condition, we will send you a replacement iPod that may be new, used or refurbished. The replacement iPod will be functionally equivalent to your iPod when new.

So Apple will REPLACE your iPod and i HIGHLY doubt there going to mail all your crystals back to you in a nice envelope.Good luck doing any business modphone, your going to need it.

It been 2 weeks since I posted and all that time ModPhone still haven’t put up a good picture of a crystal version mini.  If they was really serious about they would have it up already.  Right now I am thinking ModPhone are just waiting for someone’s mini ipod to mod and then put up a picture.

Crystal Mini’s already have several different colors and design up on their website to view.

Both of companies have warranty on their craftsmanship but if the ipod itself is damage .. Apple will repair if it has not been tamper or open b4.  There is no guarantee that Apple will return your ipod WITH crystals back. (I have confirm this)  Modphone does not cover repairs on the Ipod only on the crystals..  Crystal mini’s warranty covers the crystals but they went one step beyond.. they EVEN COVER the Mini Ipod if there is any problems with the software or hardware and you will still get your ipod with crystals on it.

For 200 bucks less than crystal mini, modphone may have a better price but there no good pictures to see how good Modphone version is like to make a comparison.. One just have to go on blind fate that when you send it in to modphone that it will coming out looking good.  As of now modphone still havent convince me to buy their product. Right now I know if I go with Crystal Mini’s I know what I am getting and how good it will look.

Let see how much longer will it take for modphone to have a good pic of their version of a crystalize mini ipod.

I actually saw these gorgeous babies!!  I was in Tekserve (west 23rd) and saw some people walking around with it!!!  They are sooo much more beautiful than those pics in the websites…  very good workmanship.  And yes, the warranty does cover BOTH the iPod & the crystals, lifetime, by actual certified Apple techs.  So apparently they will even replace any missing crystal and fix you iPod if anything ever happen. Tekserve should start selling these crystal mini iPods soon for those of you who are curious.  I’m already in line for my bling2 Jaguar mini =)

Oopps the warranty is actually one year.
