Umm exactly what is the point of this thing? It would make sense if it were a tiny little thing that looked like the current remote without a wire.

This basically is an ipod, except that you need to have an iPod already to make it work!

No, the remote is noticably smaller than the ipod.  One of the best aspects, however, is that your ipod has moving parts (the HD/head) while the remote doesn’t: as such, if your ipod is in your bag at the gym, while you’re going cardio or something, you’re not risking your ipod as much.

Moreover, the weight seems to be far less.

You can also hang the small receiver around your neck, attach headphones to it and roam around the room while your iPod sits on a desk somewhere. it’s not clear what the maximum range will be until the product ships.

if its bluetooth, it’ll be long enough ^_-

The only problem is price. The Navipod itself is already soo expensive a basic infrared remote. Imagine something with bluetooth, 8 hour li-ion battery, and lcd screen.

if it was around the same price as the navipod, i’d order it straight away!

It did say that Impulsesoft was a short range wirless solutions, so i wouldnt be expecting to leave your ipod in your car while your in the gym… but maybe

it would likely work better if you wanted to keep your ipod in your locker and transmitted from there…

I went to http://www.impulsesoft.com/ and checked out the stats for their other bluetooth solution (iWish)and this is what I found:

Bluetooth  
Profile:  A2DP, AVRCP, Headset, Handsfree
Module: Class II
Connectivity: Point – to – Point
Range : 8 meters
Specification: BQB Certification (version 1.1)

I’m guessing the range will be something simular to that.

All I’ve wanted since I got my first and second iPod is the ability to utilize wireless headphones.  There is nothing worse than turning your head slighty and yanking out an earphone, or catching a wire on a doorknob or something.  If this product is in any way able to make this desire a reality, I’d order two!

I used to have the WM-WX808 ( http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~an4t-tkns/taro/walkman/199302/wm-wx808.jpg ) back in the mid-90s, and that wireless remote had a bigger and more useful screen than this remote, why can’t the screen be on the front than the side??

It’s as big as an iPod mini. But with a much smaller LCD and no scrollwheel.
