Twelve South has introduced its new Compass mobile stand for the iPad. Compass is an easel-like stand made from heavy gauge steel featuring a collapsible design for easy portability, the ability to switch between two stand angles—one more vertical and one low-angle—and an included travel case. Twelve South’s Compass mobile stand for iPad is available now and sells for $40.

Even if they look nice in pictures, the quality of Twelve South’s accessories leaves a lot to be desired. Their last iPad stand Bookarc didn’t even hold the iPad properly, and if I was guessing, this one probably has problems too.

I picked this up a couple of days ago.  I have been looking for a stand for my iPad but I didn’t like that most of them were bulky and not portable at all.  I have to say the the quality is great and holds the iPad perfectly.  It is a little on the pricey side but if you need something to throw in your bag this stand is perfect for the job.  Side note.  I was using a $10 plate stand that I picked up a hobby store but it broke in two when my 2 year old got his hands on it.

Odd, this looks nearly identical to the Brainydeal Kickstand, which you can find on Amazon for $27.00.

I have one of these and quite like it.  This looks very similar but smaller/thinner/lighter.  From the above comments I might be a little worried about that, though otherwise it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
