Ultimate Ears has begun shipping its new super.fi 4 vi earphones, which offer an iPhone-friendly design with an in-line microphone and control button that allows users to answer/end phone calls and control media playback functions. The super.fi 4 vi’s feature a single custom armature speaker, tuned for “detailed bass while delivering crisp and clean mids and highs,” which works in concert with a proprietary tuned filter to “shape” the sound for greater detail. Other features include a machined, “gunmetal silver” aluminum housing, and an included carrying case, sound level attenuator which lowers overall volume levels for noisy sound sources, and universal fit eartip kit with five sets of silicone eartips. The Ultimate Ears super.fi 4 vi earphones are available now and sell for $150.

Theses are available for super cheap at amazon.com. Less than $70 with shipping i believe. I own them and they are very nice at noise cancellation. the only problem Ive had is the small button doesnt control volume only pauses and goes forward. great sound though, worh the amazon price not sure about $150.

Kennan,
The “problem” you had with the button isn’t unique to these earphones - all button-enabled iPhone earphones, including those packed-in with the phone, operate in this way.

Sound a little disappointing. They are $150, yet lack the Ultimate Ears (nearly)-standard “user-replaceable” cable?
Why not make a $40 iPhone cable that is compatible with nearly all Ultimate Ears models? Then you’ll get new customers buying a set of Ultimate Ears + iPhone cable, as well as former customers buying the iPhone cable alone.

The Apple retail stores have been carrying this exact pair of earphones for three weeks-don’t understand why the author says they’re just starting to ship?...agree a/all the comments above-not quite the quality of the other lines UE is known for-and look cheap and oversize in person compared to V-Moda’s Vibe Duos for iPhone. Anyone test compare these two?

J Amador: The answer is “uneven distribution and marketing.” Companies can’t always guarantee that their products have reached all of their intended outlets by, say, three weeks ago, and so they mightn’t announce the products (“they’re here, go and get them”) formally until they are widely available in all of the stores.
