Well, it’s called a grab bag because the buyer will not know what is in it until it is purchased and he or she opens it up.  Based on pics of the large black bag held up by Ron Johnson of Apple at the press invite to the Apple Store, it might be easy to discern if an iPod mini is inside by the bulge in the bag - which seems to be made out of canvas or some other material.  It’s not paper.  Anyway, I’m sure we’ll find out.  THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT AN iPOD MINI WILL BE IN A PARTICULAR BAG PURCHASED.

One other thing.  If an iPod mini is in the bag there will be other stuff as well.  Apple says it will be at least $600 and as much as $1000 worth of Apple products for $249.  Could even include an iSight, software, accessories, etc.  Who knows?

pkradd’s right - what would you rather do, spend $249 and get an iPod mini a week early, or spend $249 and get well more than double what you paid?  Even if you’re a Windows user and there’s a bunch of things in the bag that are Mac-only (like iLife) it’s still nice to get free stuff.

i was there in line around 6 am saturday and got asked what the line was for no less then a dozen times. Of course I told them this was the line to see the passion of Christ.

i would buy a bag if i had a chance,

see if i didnt get a mini, id ebay the rest of the stuff, make major profit then buy a mini with money left over

Of course the people who bought the grab bag most likely already own 90% of the things in there. I would guess anyone willing to wait in line just for a apple store opening is the same type of person that buys anything from apple the moment it is announced.

Your comments would be funny had they made sense.  Considering the Passion of Christ brought in 26.5 million opening day (which puts it at number 3 all time opening day, behind LOTR, and Star Wars), that comment would have brough many, many more people into the line you were trying to deter them from.

On the other hand, had you told them it was a line for the Grand Opening of the new Apple store, they probably would have just kept walking…

Oh Well.

I went there yesterday.  I thought the store would be a lot bigger—then again, things always seem a lot smaller when there’s hardly any room to move due to the massive amount of people wandering about.

BTW, there’s still a typo in the article:  Which mayor assisted in the ribbon cutting ceremony?  The former or the current? =)

It looks like both Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom were there.  I saw a ribbon-cutting pic with both of them and Steve.

Although it appears that when some people got to the front of the line they were expecting to see Jim Caviezel  and Mel Gibson.  :D
