Users having email problems with iPhone Software 2.1?

A number of iPhone users are experiencing problems with email fetching following the installation of iPhone Software 2.1. According to a lengthy thread on Apple’s discussion boards, some users find that Mail will only check their email manually, regardless of whether the account is set up to automatically receive mail via push or fetch, and regardless of whether they are using an original iPhone or iPhone 3G. At least one user in the thread claims to have received a phone call from a product specialist confirming that Apple is aware of the problem and is handling it as a “major” issue, although it remains unclear when affected users may expect a fix.

I too am having issues with mail hanging. The connecting symbol just spins and spins. And I think it’s draining my battery faster too. When I first upgraded, I got a message that said the frimware could not be updated and basically turned my phone into a 911 use only. Then when I recovered it and set it up as a new phone, it was weird mail worked for a day and then nothing.

Just bought 2 iphones and they both have the same problems. Connectivity is major one. Sometimes it will get mail and other times it says no a valid account name or some other issue. Whenit checks it often has a spinning symbol and then nothing!
So frustrating as we wnat the apple quality rather than blackberry only to find that we are now stuck with 2 phones that won’t do the job and a 2 year contract!! Funny thing is I did ask the Virgin Mobile customer service if they would take them back after 2 days because they would not perform as promised and they said “have you opened them”. I said well… that’s how I know they don’t work very well. They said ahh well after you open them we can’t take em back. You can’t fight the system!! LOL

I read many articles and came to the conclusion that my email problem only recently started after updating both the phones firmware as well as the iTunes program. I went into iTunes and disabled syncing with both my email account as well as contacts, and the problems I’ve recently experienced seem to have disappeared. Hope this helps someone…

ok, by deleting the email account and add it back in make the push mail work again.
