WebUser: iPod Almost Perfect

WebUser has posted a review of the iPod in which it got 5 of 5 stars in 3 categories, and 4 out of 5 stars in the last (Features):

We don’t quite understand why it only got a 4 in the “Features” category, as all the review said on the subject was:

“Besides playing MP3 files, the iPod has several other useful functions, like serving as a portable hard disk, storing data files and applications. Then there are extras such as a calendar, a clock and a contacts book with room for a thousand entries.”

The Ipod is perfect in every conceivable way - it is timeless, classy, sexy, beautiful, intelligent, and will be in its present form for all of eternity.  It is the quintessential icon throughout the entire universe, including multiverses, representing the highest echelon in terms of style, art, technological supremacy, and function.  In it, we find the answers to mankind’s most perplexing questions.  It is the tangible manifestation of the plain of higher spiritual existence, consisting of Einstein, Mother Theresa, and the Beatles all wrapped up into one.  The Ipod is a spring of life, and from it, flows the waters of undeniable truths and life’s purpose.  It is a juicy, swollen strawberry in the basket of existence.  It is a tender lilly in the tippy-toed frolics through the gardens of happiness.  It is the apple of the eye of mankind, the centerpiece of the spirit, the feng shui of the mind, the mirror to the soul.  The earth revolves around the sun and the in the center of the sun rests the white monolith.  God may indeed have his own Ipod.

OK, that’s stupid.  The Ipod is cool.  The end.

I can tell you why it only got 4 out of 5 stars in features. Does it have an FM tuner? No. How about a voice recorder? No. LCD remote? No. Support for a bunch of different media types? No.

I love my iPod, but that doesn’t blind me to the fact that it’s a little thin on features.

Giving a 4 out fo 5 in features is a rather generous rating compared to all the other DAPs.

quotes like these make me wonder if the guy even listened to the ipod first or if hes just a fanboy for apple…

“It’s hard to fault the sound quality of the iPod, which is wonderfully sharp and powerful, remaining distortion-free even at top volume. A choice of equaliser presets such as Electronic, Hip Hop and Spoken Word lets you adjust the audio according to the type of track you’re listening to, and you can also boost or reduce the bass, treble and vocal.”

everyone knows the ipod eq is trash…
heres another great quote from the guy

“The supplied earphones are far superior to the usual fare”

thats just ridiculous.

The ipod is not perfect.  Non-replaceable battery, slow response time for changing between tracks (larger cache could help), a good recording feature.  Other than that, it still blows most players out of the water.

larger memory size too (larger cache would help, but memory might be more interesting)

This isn’t a review.  The guy is just reading the specs and adding some hype.  There’s enough credible reviews out there, why post more hokey ones?

Also, you want to consider the Creative players.

The NX and Xtra both have a full sweat of DSP features in the form of EAX.

The NX/Xtra have the standard custum EQ (as well as presets), but also come with Spatilization options, Time-Scalling (speeding up and slowing down the music to different rates without altering pitch, so it sounds as though the band has actually sped up), Enviromental Effects (with preset for many different sound environments), and Smart Volume (to help solve life’s little problem of listening to a song with both quiet and loud parts on a bus).
